Sothfork Kitchen is open and it was worth the wait!

So after months of false starts and opening dates that have come and gone, Southfork Kitchen in Bridgehampton is finally open. The big question is now, was it worth the wait?! The answer is a definitive yes. Southfork Kitchen is billed as a sustainable "farm-to-table" restaurant with seafood and local produce, and boasting it's very own on-site gardens.

Chef Joe Isidori has has created a menu that is both innovative and delicious. Some of the featured appetizers on the menu include 8 o'clock Ranch Pork Belly with breakfast radish, sea salt and Yazu, Southfork Kitchen Clam Chowder with soy cured bacon and vegtables and a amazing Garden salad with homemade buttermilk dressing and ewe's blue cheese.

Entrees include Icelandic Artic Char with white organic miso and tonato fondue, Milowski Farm Hertiage Turkey Saltimbocca with egg, orgainic spinach and guanciale. I'm not a food writer here so I'm just copying what the menu says. So don't ask me what guacnciale is!? I actually ordered the Chicken... yes, chicken.. but I have to say it was really quite good. Ok, I'll be more adventurous next time.

The wines were local as well featuring Channing Daughters and Wolffer vineyards for example. All in all it was a great evening, with a few little kinks in the service but it IS A NEW PLACE! Owner and blogger Bruce Buschel has created a warm and friendly enviornment where his greetings of many of the diners will no doubt make Southfork Kitchen the hardest reservation in the summer of '011! Wow, I was nice... no complaints.. but I have to say SFK earned it. Good luck guys!

Southfork Kitchen is open at 203 Sag Harbor Turnpike, Bridgehampton, NY 11932

BLT comes to the Hamptons!

They're building a better burger at the former home of Grappa and Mumbo Gumbo in Sag Harbor! Amen! Finally a FRIENDLY burger joint in town! BLT Prime and BLT Steak and BLT etc. Chef Laurent Tourondel and his new take on the "burger joint" will be a very welcome addition to Sag Harbor. Look for an opening sometime around the end of the month, according to staff working on the new restaurant!

Welcome to Hell Hamptons and a weeks worth of blogging!!!

Yeah, I was busy last week and it took me some time before I could take some pen to the page I'm still in recovery between work and the events south of the highway LAST WEEK, and north of the highway too. Heavy rains and high winds knocked down trees, downed power lines and overflowed ponds from Montauk to Quogue. A friend sent me this picture from Sagaponack where a tree got it's revenge and cut power to some folks in the area. It was horrendous! The high tech phones... the Wolf stoves.. the Tivo's.... the radiant heated floors were all kaput!! In fact, some home owners were trapped like a group of Iranian hostages behind the gates of their homes that wouldn't work because, they're electric!!! Thank goodness for 911, they were throwing pate and cashmere blankets to all of those south of the highway families in need!!!

In a similar vein, the New York Post has scooped Hamptons Chatter yet again! Apparently writer and the east end's own Mr. Ripley Steven Gaines has joined forces with the Post to label the east end a "third world country!" Said the article "Bentley - and Mercedes Benz-driving Hamptonites are suffering blowouts and bent rims because of huge potholes on Route 27." Wow, it sounds like a Roland Emmerich movie!!! 2010! Maybe we can also get a great special effects shot of an expensive mansion falling into the sea!? Wait, I forgot no effects needed we can just shoot that happening to Estee Lauder heir Ron Lauder's house as we speak!

Finally... restaurant week came and went. I tried Rugosa for the first time in about a year. The menu is a little better.... the food is pretty good but they need to hire bus boys! The wait staff was sweating bullets on Friday night trying to wait on tables and clean them at the same time. I don't care how good the food is if the experience sucks I won't go back. SWEATING AND PANTING WAITERS AND WAITRESSES IS NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE!
