But yet, everyone from shop keepers and especially real estate agents (talking rentals) are saying that business is off. One thing I always do when I take my stroll around town trying to look better dressed than the next guy, I always ask shop owners "how was your season?" The response I keep hearing "not great." But it's so crowded, which leaves me wondering what gives!? Well some folks are blaming the increasing popularity of those short term rental websites for the problem. For example, you can<a href="https://marquisrentals.com/" target="_blank"> rent a house</a> in Southampton from a website called Marquis for a nightly rate of $1,100 a night even though this is in violation of town code which requires a minimum of 14 days. So, according to some there lies the problem. You have a house which advertises an occupancy of 12 people each essentially paying $100 per person, they're not the types who are going to be spending money about town in the shops and restaurants. By the way, I like that the Hamptons are becoming more accessible to folks who wouldn't normally be able to visit but by allowing overcrowding in houses it's more like a spring break location than quiet escape from city living. What do you think? <br />

Although the reservation lines need some fixing... about 45 minutes of holds, hang ups and transfers... the total experience was great. The menu is unpretentious with everything from an amazing mini pizza to a terrific kale salad and a really solid cheese burger. Service was solid and entrees arrived within a half hour of ordering. I had the penne with meatballs and thought they were over the top awesome. My dinner guests ordered the burger and the salmon, each earning a thumbs up from each. I also recommend the heirloom tomato salad which right now is on the tail of being in season so go try it now. This is a huge step up from last year's outing by Tom Coli<br />
cchio. </div>

Well this is the home stretch folks and if you're like me, the glass is half full. We have a couple more weeks of summer!!! Yes, there's more left of "Summergeddon 16" in the Hamptons and believe it or not, there are a few things you can make these next few weeks more enjoyable. <br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Get a microcell for your cell phone</b> - One of the biggest complaints people have about being on the east end is that their phones just don't work. But it doesn't have to be the case. You can go to your local service provider and buy a mini "cell tower" that hooks up to your internet for about $150. You could also try calling them and see if they'll cut you some slack and send you one for free. Sometimes they'll do that when you're in a zone with no "mapped" coverage. It's bad enough for house guest but Lord knows even locals go nuts with the dead zones out here!<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDiYRGBQRH3KeGVM0IOL3rY0n3tBKgm6GF_V1GNlV0u5wPwDXVC_o_J1SMnSE0N9JtFnaBaGzRPbTyhy-h9K54rq8pSqrYhh2O3o1e3BG_FIGsNN73Cbt66Aeg2zX1dQsYPwR9T7f7m-vm/s640/blogger-image-1236489841.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDiYRGBQRH3KeGVM0IOL3rY0n3tBKgm6GF_V1GNlV0u5wPwDXVC_o_J1SMnSE0N9JtFnaBaGzRPbTyhy-h9K54rq8pSqrYhh2O3o1e3BG_FIGsNN73Cbt66Aeg2zX1dQsYPwR9T7f7m-vm/s320/blogger-image-1236489841.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">In Southampton behind Chase... plenty of spots!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<b>Learn where to park - </b>Going to dinner, lunch or just picking up a Lululemon shirt can be a nightmare during the height of summer. Driving up and down main street hoping that you'll be lucky and be granted a gift by your parking angel. But what if that Escalade isn't pulling out for your Mini-Cooper any time soon? In Southampton Village, haul your four tires around the corner and use the village parking behind the Chase bank and West Main. In Sag Harbor, during the day try the lot next to Dodds and Eder on W. Water St. In East Hampton, the Walbaum's lot is always a nightmare so instead try the lot off Gingerbread Lane Extension (by the YMCA) and cut through Herrick Park to the heart of the village.<br />
<br />
<b>Coming and Going - </b>We all know you don't leave the Hamptons on Sunday afternoons at 4 pm and you don't leave the city on Fridays from 11am-5pm... so when are the "optimal" times to make your trek back and forth? Well since I'm now a full timer out here I had to ask a few of my friends who are citidiot's to get an answer. What is the best time to go back and forth to the east end? The answer; Friday nights around 7pm departure from the city and Monday am at about 8 am departing the Hamptons. That is of course if you can't catch the "cannonball" from Penn Station. <br />
<br />
<b>Handling Your Hot Car </b>- I'm not sure where I read this but when your car is a 105 degrees and it's only 80 outside, there's a simple hack that will cool it off ASAP. I'm not sure how it works or why but it does. Open the passenger side window and then open and shut the driver side door a few times for about 15 seconds. I kid you not, your car will be a whole lot cooler. I failed physics in high school so if there are any geeks out there to explain this, I'm all ears.<br />
<br />
<b>See You in September</b> - Hello, summer doesn't end till until September 23rd. I'm letting you know the best kept secret in the Hamptons... SEPTEMBER IS THE BEST MONTH. You have warm weather, warm water, less crowds and virtually ever shop in town is having a sale! It's my favorite time of year out here. It will be yours too... by the way, all the hotels are cheaper too! <br />
<br />
Finally... it's my blog so suffer. I want to tell you what I'm listening to this summer. I can do that! For some reason I stumbled on the new album from ABC (Look of Love and When Smokey Sings fame). It's called The Lexicon of Love II and it's a "sequel" to their album of the same name which was huge in '82. I personally think it's awesome and it's great pop music for grown ups. Take a listen to the clip below. Yeah they look older but we all do!<br />

HAHA... CLICK BAIT... GOT CHA! BUT DAMN IT... I'm upset<br />
!! Why do I keep reading all of these magazine profiles with everyone in the Hamptons but ME! It's frustrating, I mean I'm more fabulous than the other guy you just profiled! So rather than wait for some writer who doesn't really know me tell you how fabulous I am, I've decided to tell you myself. I mean it is the Hamptons and it is all about me!! So here is my interview with me about me...<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">BRAD AND ANGELINA HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS BLOG.</td></tr>

<b><br /></b>
<b>So what brought you to the Hamptons?</b><br />
I came out for a benefit to see my dear friend Christopher Rockefeller on a beautiful August day about 20 years ago. I think it was a fundraiser for cats without tongues ("It's really a travesty they're the meow-less minority"). I am very involved in so many causes but I don't like to talk about them all, unless they honor me with a plaque. Anyway, I came out and just fell in love with the crowds that time of year. It was so friendly and everyone just seemed to be enjoying themselves. I mean how could I leave?<br />
<br />
<b>What don't you like about the Hamptons?</b><br />
Oh I can't stand the McMansions. They're horrible. The one that I live in is not a McMansion at all, although some may think it looks like a really glamorous one. I hate the McMansions look, so I did some renovations to really make my house a home. For example, when I moved in all of the dishwashers were Bosch, I switched them all to Miele. Voila! The house feels so completely different now, it accents the granite counter tops in a whole new way!<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Where is your favorite place for dinner?</b><br />
My own house. My wife, my boyfriend and my trainer found me the most fabulous private chef, Wolfgang Von Trapp. His vegetarian chili served over his secret edel-rice is fabulous! It's also gluten free, fat free and sodium free! I mean who needs to go to a restaurant and see all those hungry people staring while you cut to the front of the line? Eating at home is so much more civilized and when Wolfgang sings you'll feel like running to the top of our burm and start spinning!<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1w8U1S_kl_SHv__c2hfpYzd34f78ERjZxme0j2cVk8nkxkP_xXYoZVwyUvtBct4mFg93uo1MnU27tv7_SLnqFHN8C_FPUFaa6wvTwpj1WLTry2JkgiLSxc9gg6Evbj-rNQ3OBwfOX9FuW/s1600/absolutely+fabulous+.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1w8U1S_kl_SHv__c2hfpYzd34f78ERjZxme0j2cVk8nkxkP_xXYoZVwyUvtBct4mFg93uo1MnU27tv7_SLnqFHN8C_FPUFaa6wvTwpj1WLTry2JkgiLSxc9gg6Evbj-rNQ3OBwfOX9FuW/s320/absolutely+fabulous+.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">It's an absolutely fabulous day when it's sunny!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<b>What's your idea of the perfect summer afternoon in the Hamptons?</b><br />
A warm sunny one. <br />
<br />
<b>How do you stay so fit?</b><br />
I found this secret spin studio south of the highway off Georgica Pond which was started by a group of former Branch Dividians. It's a whole new way of working out with bright lights, sleep deprivation and chanting. I sometimes go three or four times a day! It's reasonably priced too, just put them in your will and pay $50 for a 45 minute class.<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>What are you reading?</b><br />
Right now I'm reading two books; "Being and Nothingness" by Jean-Paul Sarte and "Inferno" by Dan Brown. I like to think when I read.<br />
<br />
<b>What's your favorite place to shop?</b><br />
I like stores! It's so incredible to go into a real building. I know everyone else goes on and on about websites like Amazon and Zappos but you can't see how you'll look in front of other people on the Internet! Besides isn't it a little weird to go to lunch after shopping on a computer? There are no bags.<br />
<br />
<b>By the way, did we say you're charming, smart and good looking?!</b><br />
You're welcome, I like to use Kiel's facial fuel.<br />
<br />

Soros... and more!I've griped forever about how there isn't a good Mexican "sit down" restaurant in the Hamptons. I've complained and complained. Yes, I like La Fondita and Sabrosa but I can't really see having a nice quiet dinner at either location. But this summer, it seems we finally can get the whole enchilada and enjoy it too! <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
First in Southampton is Union Cantina. Located at the site of the former Southampton Public House, the "Cantina" opened in mid-June and has been packing it's tables ever since. So far, the reviews have been pretty good. I haven't yet been but FOHC (Friends of Hamptons Chatter) have been telling me the foods pretty solid... not outstanding but good. The standouts according to my sources are the enchiladas, roasted peach glazed pork and the freshly made salsa. While the prices are certainly not Taco Bell they're not exactly Nello either. So based on the word of mouth around town it seems Union Cantina is worth a visit. If you've been, let me know what you think.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Secondly, The Blue Parrot in East Hampton has long been a punch line for bad food and bad service in my book forever! I went a few years ago when it first opened under the new management which includes Jon Bon Jovi and the girl from Jerry Maguire who has a name I can't spell. The food was overpriced, lousy and served with a snarl from the surly staff. If that wasn't bad enough they used to have a bouncer there which would have lead you to believe, folks were clamoring to get inside.... and they weren't. Anyway, for whatever reason I decided to stop by for a visit last week after a hiatus of close to three years. The first thing I encountered was a friendly staff and no bouncer! I had to wait while my table was being prepped so I sat at the bar and had a really great margarita... at $15 bucks it was no bargain but the pour was generous and the mason jar/drinking glass was filled pretty high. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_BFCLApCYGnMwFwdlxddkyhYh__7wZtTCcF4c5fjifg7h5QK6jw0r6Cxu8l-mmUOCYx95NWv2vLDbfS7Oee8ObyTabWzTuRDjo2cjzVj5AA6iFUvg2sjmSGTRUbDgoHgEkelPWHvb1jOa/s1600/Blue+Parrot.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_BFCLApCYGnMwFwdlxddkyhYh__7wZtTCcF4c5fjifg7h5QK6jw0r6Cxu8l-mmUOCYx95NWv2vLDbfS7Oee8ObyTabWzTuRDjo2cjzVj5AA6iFUvg2sjmSGTRUbDgoHgEkelPWHvb1jOa/s320/Blue+Parrot.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I'm sorry... I'm sorry... I like you!!!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
After about 5 minutes, the table was ready and I sat down as fresh tortilla chips and salsa were being dropped off at the table. That was followed by the house Oaxaca salad and Lime Chipotle fajitas. While I know fajitas aren't exactly gourmet and probably not the best way to judge the cuisine, I have to say they were really good and served with fresh made corn tortillas. By the way, yes you can make bad fajitas I should know, I worked at a Chi Chi's in college (for those of you who don't know, it was the Mexican Olive Garden of the 80's). My partner in crime Peter had the fish tacos which which also garnered a big thumbs up. The final verdict is that I take back all the negative things I've said in the past about Blue Parrot. The snarky Go Fund Me page for the chef to take cooking lessons has been taken down and my mea culpa is complete. So , if you've not been to The Blue Parrot in years, take my advice and give it another shot. <br />
<br />
Finally, just in time for August some good news about what makes the Hamptons such a fun place to live. According to sources, billionaire investor George Soros made a stop with a few friends at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor. While that's not anything to set rumors flying what happened when the check was delivered is the interesting part. Apparently Mr. S. (as I call him) paid his hefty check with 4 figures not including cents and added on a 100%+ tip for the staff. While I haven't been able to confirm this Christmas come early gift from the tight lipped staff at the hotel... my sources are pretty reliable. Besides, what's so wrong with being nice!?</div>

NO RESERVATIONS... NO PROBLEMS... THE BEST GOURMET TO GO!Yes, it's finally August in the Hamptons. The water is warm. The sun is shining. Traffic is bumper to bumper on 27 with Range Rovers in full bloom. While SoulCyle's parking lot looks like a WWF pay per view. But enough about all the things we cherish in the Hamptons during August. Instead lets talk about a major first world problem that so many of us know first hand, the difficulties with getting a weekend restaurant reservation! <br />
<br />
Yes, it's the time of year when 25 minutes turns into 2 hours for a bar table. It's more than any south of the highway socialite should have to endure. But luckily for you Paris, Kimye and all of the other society readers of Hamptons Chatter, you don't have to suffer in silence any longer! Here are a few ideas for getting gourmet meals in your very home without having to stoop to pizza or any sort of wonton that comes in a paper carton.<br />

According to Purrazzi, "The process of hiring a private chef is pretty easy. We normally speak with our clients over the phone and get an overview of the families culinary likes and dislikes...<br />
.... from the formal dining to the beach BBQ. The key is to match the clients needs to the perfect chef. Once we do that, we put the two together to create the perfect dinner menu." Prices vary based on the size of party and the duration of the event. If you like more information you can visit their website <a href="http://www.jkchefcollection.com/">www.jkchefcollection.com</a> or give them a call at 631-460-0010. Yep, the home of the "heavenly biscuits" will pack your dinner for you to enjoy in your own kitchen. The menu is available online and updated frequently. While I'm not sure I would get the oysters to go (a little messy) from the fresh fish, to the roasted chicken and the french dip all are made from scratch daily and travel well. This isn't done for any other reason than my own amusement. I can write thoughts and impressions on just about everything, except relatives. That being said, today I'm just jotting some really tangential thoughts about living on the east end. In no particular order of importance are my unrelated musings about my little part of the world this summer.<br>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGmZC95fDXyWFEWhG_S9M_PP99e7g9rjZilr6nsDo5O560T8IXZei7sPZnFjBstxAtb3OVOg7fz6WBywadCsvaNALmbhyphenhyphendchna9NvQjTvIyeeHxu3Tgp9wQw8fyvVyXOk_CdrH3-bwiDLu/s1600/traffic+jam.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGmZC95fDXyWFEWhG_S9M_PP99e7g9rjZilr6nsDo5O560T8IXZei7sPZnFjBstxAtb3OVOg7fz6WBywadCsvaNALmbhyphenhyphendchna9NvQjTvIyeeHxu3Tgp9wQw8fyvVyXOk_CdrH3-bwiDLu/s320/traffic+jam.jpg" width="320"></a></td></tr>

<br>
1) Do they really need speed traps on Route 27 when the average speed on weekends is about 10 miles an hour? Seriously, I've noticed this over and over again. Considering traffic is worse this year than last (yes, we say this every year) I don't understand. Maybe there* not actually speed <br>
traps and instead just looking for the next Range Rover to go by with an inexperienced driver texting like mad on the way to Tracy Anderson. Speaking of which....<br>
<br>
2) Wouldn't it be great if they opened a Planet Fitness next to Tracy Anderson in Water Mill!? I don't know why but I just find this idea so appealing. Come to think of it, let's open a Ben and Jerry's on the other side.<br>
<br>
3) I'm over screaming children in restaurants.... when I was a kid, my parents would have killed (me) if I ran around and screamed in a public space. But then again, the only two restaurants my parents ever took me to were Rustler Steak House and Perkins Pancakes. Anyway, we digress. The bottom line is I'm not spending top dollar to eat out and have your kid scream in my ear! When my nieces and nephews were little and screaming, I wouldn't go to do dinner with them so I'm sure as hell not having dinner with your kid! I know I sound cranky but whatever. I also want to say your kid isn't that cute!<br>
<br>
4) There is nothing better than taking a boat at twilight and heading to dinner. Especially when it's someone else's boat!!!<br>
<br>
5) Is it really worth $100 for a pound of Lobster Salad? <br>
<br>

6) If you're being honored by a particular charity and asked to make a speech, please make it about the charity and not about yourself. "I'm so busy but I find time... my personal assistant has been swamped.... my new shoes hur!" UGH! Really? Hamptons residents are very generous and love supporting the charities of their choice and.... squirrel... make sure to buy tickets for<a href="https://gimmeshelteranimalrescue.org/" target="_blank"> Gimme Shelter Animal Rescue </a>benefit next week it's a good one... also the <a href="http://lgbtnetwork.org/content/sunset-harbor-1" target="_blank">LGBT Network's Sunset on the Harbor</a>..... but please don't mistake my donation as an invitation to go on about YOU! <br>
<br>
7) Finally, I was taught long ago you never go to someone's house for dinner empty handed. I think it's a nice practice. But for the love of g-d, if you're going to re-gift the bottle of wine you received two weeks earlier at your dinner party take the old tag off. Oh, and by the way if I'm the one who brings said bottle back to your house, please don't let everyone know! Maybe I didn't like that cheap garbage you gave me!!! <br>

WHAT'S OUT... SUMMER '16 IN THE HAMPTONS! PLUS MIXING,MINGLING AND MORE AT THE OLD STOVE PUB!Trends may come and go but when it comes to the Hamptons, trends come and go like tissue paper. So, while it wasn't that long ago Rick Astley and torn sweatshirts were all the rage here on the east end... shut up, it really was hip not that long ago. There are new trends that have invaded homes from Westhampton to Montauk this year and lucky for you, I'm here to tell you all about them. Because as everyone knows... I define what's cool! Cool like listening to Barry Manilow at a TGI Friday's.<br />

Finally something that hopefully will be very "In" for this summer.... Saturday cocktails at the Old Stove Pub iin Sagaonponack. Every Saturday from 5-7pm, they'll be opening their doors to east end members of the LGBT community for a Saturday mixer. Discount drinks and free passed appetizers will be offered in addition to a chance for great mixing and mingling. There's also plenty of parking available and you'll have the chance to see if anyone with a sense of fashion still wears Crocs. If they do, I predict they will be shunned! READ THIS!It's now official, the Hamptons are now the sixth borough. When you pick up your land line phone, you now have dial the area code for local calls. It's not that it's a big deal but I kind of think it's the <br />
tipping point for something. I'm not sure what... but it's definitely a tipping point for something.<br />

Meanwhile, I never realized it but when you sell real estate on the East End you start to speak a language all of it's own. A few months ago I started noting the terms I use with some of my other friends in the biz out here to describe the people and places in our humble little neck of the woods. So here they are in no particular order or significance, additions to the lexicon of selling Hamptons real estate.<br />
<b></b><br /><b></b>
<b>TMS or Taj Mahal Syndrome</b> - this is when a home seller thinks their particular property is the best of the best. Yes, it involves an inflated price tag on their home and total denial of the realities of the market place. While they love their gilded fish faucets in the downstairs powder room, very few consumers will put a value on such a luxurious fixture. It doesn't matter how much they cost. It's really a frustrating affliction for realtors because how do you not insult your sellers while explaining, "everyone thinks your #@#***% gilded fish are hideous?"<br />
<br />
<b>Catfished</b> - this term is actually used more often when discussing <a href="http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=catfished" target="_blank">Facebook profiles </a> but can also be used to describe when some customers actually see an advertised listing in person. Thanks to <br />

modern technology and overseas sweat shops, it's easier for property photos to be "enhanced" without spending a fortune. A gaping hole in the roof? No problem, it's solved with a click of a mouse and a wave of a pen. So imagine, the buyers delight when they actually see the house in person!? They've been "catfished."<br />
<br />
<b>A Kobe</b> - Remember when <a href="http://stylenews.people.com/style/2011/12/17/kobe-bryant-wife-apology-ring/" target="_blank">Kobe Bryant </a>got tangled up in a sex scandal a few years back? A few nasty headlines and the next thing you know is his wife got a brand new bauble the size of Texas? Well it happens here too. So, while diamonds are a girls best friend, real estate is many a girls BFF (rings can get lost). Now, I don't want to sound sexist. There are more than a few men out there getting their "kobes" too. But while I've also noticed it's usually spouse #2 who gets these 8000 square foot multi-million dollar baubles, there really is nothing wrong with it. I'm happy to helps someone "kobe" anyone, anytime.<br />
<br />
<b>Earhardt</b> - Yes, I've written about this before but a great term is worth repeating. This one was shared to me by one of our local cab drivers a few years ago. This is a person who is renting a home in the Hamptons but can't remember where it's located. A reference to the pioneer and missing aviator Amelia Earhardt. These particular folks are usually spotted wandering around early in the season on the streets of the east end looking for the cedar shingled house with the pool in the back yard. <br />
<br />
Yes it's fun being here in the playground of the rich, famous and sometime clueless... where we have a lifestyle and a language all our own!<br />

DONUTS... AND TUNA TARTARE! -UPDATED!!! In case you missed it there was a lot of buzz a few months ago as Tom Colicchio and Topping Rose House parted ways. Much of the well deserved criticism revolved around the fact that the prices were steep and the food was just a tad too "precious." Well, when it was recently announced that Jean-Georges Vongerichten would be moving into that prime location, it was with a skeptical eye that many Hamptons folks awaited the arrival of it's latest celebrity chef. I mean, doesn't everyone want quail and sweet breads when visiting the beach?<br />

But guess what? A good thing happened on the way to Bridgehampton. Rather than taking a step on the fancy side, the restaurateur took a page more from his <u><a href="http://www.theinnatpoundridge.com/menus/brunch/" target="_blank">Inn at Pound Ridge</a></u> menu and gave it a Hamptons spin. <a href="http://www.toppingrosehouse.com/restaurant/" target="_blank">Jean-Georges at the Topping Rose House </a>is now open and ready for business. While make no mistake the bill is going to cost you a few more dollars than an Olive Garden Prix Fixe, the prices are reasonable by local standards and the menu is actually pretty accessible. The restaurant was open over the Memorial Day and served dishes from the new menu including; Tuna Tartare with Avacado and ginger marinade for $22, Kale Salad with Lemon and Parmesan $15, Parmesan Crusted Organic Chicken for $32 and a Cheeseburger with Frizzled Onions and House made pickles for $21. For the vegetarian in the group, they also have a Garden Vegetable Brown Rice bowl with Salsa Verde for $26. While I haven't had the chance to check it out yet, if it's anything like the Westchester outlet I have no doubt it will be packed from now until Labor Day! For more information or reservations, you can try calling <a dir="ltr" href="tel:631-537-0870" x-apple-data-detectors-result="0" x-apple-data-detectors-type="telephone" x-apple-data-detectors="true">631-537-0870</a> or go online by <a href="http://www.jean-georges.com/restaurants/united-states/new-york/jean-georges-at-topping-rose-house/" target="_blank">clicking here!</a></div>

Meanwhile, something is apparently brewing in Sag Harbor and Homer Simpson will very happy. I was on the street and I glazed over to find out that <a href="http://www.grindstonecoffeeanddonuts.com/" target="_blank">Grindstone Coffee and Donuts</a> is coming to town. The hole deal is getting ready to set up shot at the location that was formerly occupied by Pepalajefa at 7 Main Street in Sag Harbor. Fronted by two veteran coffee shope folks, locals Kyle Shanahan and Anna Coffman will have brioche style donuts in such mouth watering flavors as strawberry shortcake, chocolate coconut and of course the traditional glazed! The two are also making a point of sourcing all of the ingredients from local providers like Mecox Dairy and Amber Waves Farm in Amagansett. In fact, they're taking the local angle so seriously they've decided to start working on a beach plum filled jelly donut recipe. But if you're hoping these will be low calorie, fat free, taste free confections, forget it. The plan is for real "super buttery brioche donuts"... dare I say it's a the Hamptons answer to a cronut..... a bronut? The shop will also have a range of gourmet coffees and teas to help unclog your arteries. Look for Grindstone Coffee and Donuts to open sometime at the end of the month! One final thought before I go? Some folks say, "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels"... except for donuts which say, "skinny can go "f" itself." </div>

Just what East Hampton needs before the season... another commercial property going vacant. Yes, the scoop is that Scoop is shuttering it's doors on Newton Lane in the next weeks. The two decade old luxury retailer is holding an inventory liquidation sale right now. Known for their eclectic brands of high end duds, rumor has it that the retailer will be shuttering all their doors in the next few weeks. According to reports, they already shut their Soho outlet sometime earlier this week. Soho...Soho??? Is that anywhere near the Tanger Mall in Riverhead? Damn, I've been living here in the Hamptons too long. ANYWAY, it's time to get your butt to the store before their inventory is gone! If you can't make it, you can always go to their website www.scoopnyc.com, where the discounts have already begun. <br />
<br />
<br />
Speaking of sales and saving money, the clock is ticking for Suffolk county homeowners looking to file for a property tax grievance. The deadline is end of business day this Monday the 16th. If you want more information, you can go to the <a href="https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/property/contest/grievproced.htm" target="_blank">NY State website </a>and then click on your individual town. You can also do a quick google search online for one of a number of tax reduction services. Most of them don't charge anything unless you actually get a reduction. If you do, they'll take about 50% of your first year's savings. Check with each service about their individual fees and procedures. <br />

Yes, there is a <i>lot </i>of kicking involved on this date. But what did you expect from a gay event? The Network is an association of non-profits that work to serve the LGBT community both young and old from Queens (the location) to... Montauk. The group started a community center in the Hamptons, the first of it's kind on the east end. In fact, all proceeds from this event are earmarked for the center located at the Whaler's Church in Sag Harbor. The location is the Bridgehampton Surf an Tennis Club.. and this is the first big event of the season. Tickets start at $250 till this Friday and then go to $300, which is pretty reasonable for a Hamptons event with open bar and appetizers. </span> The best reason to go:<span style="font-weight: normal;"> Other than the mingling and the scenery, the silent auction will feature everything from VIP spa treatments to having drinks with Bravo's Andy Cohen. </span>Potential Reason to skip it:<span style="font-weight: normal;"> If you're expecting a scantily clad beach party forget it. It's Memorial Day weekend on the ocean... it's more like sweaters and long pants. But hey, you're still on the beach and there hopefully won't be any snow!</span></span></span></h2>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Something Brewing.. time to change the label!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I can barley stand it! It has some folks hops-ing mad! Apparently the spuds will no longer be flowing on Bowden Square. In spite of an announcement back in October that the Southampton Publick House would be staying put at the current location, word has gotten out that folks will soon have to fasten their beer goggles in a new location. Since 1996 the brewery and restaurant have been a staple around town but it seems the new building owners have other plans. According to some local insiders, the location will soon be home to a "high end Mexican Restaurant." Now if you've ever read this blog before... that's a huge deal for me yet I hate to see an old favorite move to somewhere new. While the Publick house will go on... like Celine Dion's heart.... it will according to insiders have to be in a new location. Sometimes a little change will do you good.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Oh is that the blood rushing to your head?</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Now for a little advice. If you want to send any real estate agent's boiling blood further to their head just say the following sentence, "<i>BUT</i> Zillow said my house is worth X!" It's the bane of many a real estate agent and brokers existence. In fact, <a href="http://www.latimes.com/business/realestate/la-fi-harney-20150208-story.html" target="_blank">The Los Angles Times </a> recently tackled the issue of "Zestimantes" (Zillow's estimate) and how many claim they're wildly inaccurate. In fact, I have to say part of the big problem with Zillow's "formula" is that it can't really take into account factors like condition and location (waterfront, south of the highway, village). So how inaccurate are these "Zestimates?" Well the CEO of Zillow was recently quoted as saying they're "a good starting point" and have a "median error rate of about 8%." Obviously this error rate varies in different markets and Zillow even says so at the bottom of the Zestimates page. While I couldn't locate the margin in our area, I can tell you that my own personal home fluctuated by about $5,000,000 in a period of 6 months. Now, I know you think Hamptons Chatter just rakes in the money but the initial high estimate they gave my home <br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3AxUchoAuA0VGYLCdC7T_JWdiuX2IJM6lYXOj74hX86Y6hy2kYOF5JbYFHIX00egycAo4ccefh-Wk5NiXgzG38Mf6R4aMDbWjRGLHsYO4QgbWHdy9Jvbj6lrP5lub1bC99HUqB6Kx3TLd/s1600/zillow+logo.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="67" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3AxUchoAuA0VGYLCdC7T_JWdiuX2IJM6lYXOj74hX86Y6hy2kYOF5JbYFHIX00egycAo4ccefh-Wk5NiXgzG38Mf6R4aMDbWjRGLHsYO4QgbWHdy9Jvbj6lrP5lub1bC99HUqB6Kx3TLd/s320/zillow+logo.png" width="320" /></a>was crazy. I'd move out in hours if I could get that number tomorrow! Yep, I would guess their error rate in the Hamptons is a heck of a lot more than a 8%. It's a big miss in the Hamptons... like an Ishtar big miss! A "Missestimate" if you will. So the take away from all of this... talk to an agent or do your homework (Zillow.com is a great source for closed prices) and don't try let some silicon valley geek tell you what your home is worth. Besides, how could you put a price on that "Sistine Chapel" painting on your master bedroom ceiling?<br />

READ THIS FIRST....Yes, the summer season is approaching quicker than a new Kim Kardashian nude selfie. But while I'm getting ready by practicing defensive driving techniques others are busy lining up their rentals for the Memorial Day to Labor Day pilgrimage to the east end. Oh, yeah and I'm helping them rent those houses.... I'm the number one rental agent in the Hamptons*.... didn't I tell you that?! (*based upon stats that I won't disclose and that are collected by me). But before you can say grab the rose wine and beach blanket, there are a few things you might need to know. Here once again with my perennial video about the obligations of renting a house in the Hamptons is my friend Rob Disario.<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/hohUh2AlvBo" width="560"></iframe><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
One thing Rob didn't mention in the video is renters are also required to get their own insurance when residing in their temporary home. Recently, I had the chance to ask John Wallace of <a href="http://www.amadengay.com/" target="_blank">Amaden Gay Insuranc</a>e about some of the more important points of why this is necessary.....<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1_Sk3IrqbM1ro_X_oF4Av-9a6xGzRWiR9pbV7NNYhG6LQ3fcqkzz8Dh_CuYUy8I0ApwJN089W50gdGfZSWA_T31g68tyDl66IcslhvfwKxkesK-23_Lo10J11qFj91elS7-2JMxkVXsJc/s1600/burgler-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="283" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1_Sk3IrqbM1ro_X_oF4Av-9a6xGzRWiR9pbV7NNYhG6LQ3fcqkzz8Dh_CuYUy8I0ApwJN089W50gdGfZSWA_T31g68tyDl66IcslhvfwKxkesK-23_Lo10J11qFj91elS7-2JMxkVXsJc/s320/burgler-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Protect yourself when the burglar comes to town!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
1) Is it really necessary to get renter's insurance? <br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="color: #1f497d; font-family: "calibri" , sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;">I would always tell summer renters to get their own policy. The average cost is about $300-$500.00 /year. It would cover them for the personal contents and liability for at least $500,000 or more depending on the coverage they select. It would also cover them for loss of use and personal contents they brought to the home. This would cover them if for some reason due to a loss they could not stay in the home they rented they could rent another place and the insurance company would pay for it. This cover them for most everything for a fraction of the rental cost. What is the big deal if they spend $30,000 for a rental or $30,400 to be totally protected? They can always cancel the policy afterward and get probably half their money back.<u></u></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "times"; font-size: small;">2) What else can be covered with renter's insurance? </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="color: #1f497d; font-family: "calibri" , sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="color: #1f497d; font-family: "calibri" , sans-serif; font-size: 14.6667px;">All renters should check with their current homeowner or renters to see what they are covered for. They can also extend liability to the address they are renting for about $50-$100.00 and would be covered by their primary homeowner’s liability. Some companies give you coverage up to 10% of your contents away from home but you have to check with your carrier. This is the minimum they should do and is subject to their primary homeowners deductible.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="color: #1f497d; font-family: "calibri" , sans-serif; font-size: 14.6667px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "times"; font-size: small;">3) Any advice for landlords?</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="color: #1f497d; font-family: "calibri" , sans-serif; font-size: 14.6667px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="color: #1f497d; font-family: "calibri" , sans-serif; font-size: 14.6667px;">Landlords who are renting their home should check with their carrier about renting as well. Most companies are ok with a one or 2 month rental but not much more than that. They will not cover multiple tenants with weekly rentals. Also theft will not be covered if you rent your home in the summer. Most allow up to two different tenants maybe three but that is about it. Otherwise you are looking at a situation where you may void the contract.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">

It seems everything is heating up these days. The weather, the politics and the buzz for the latest entry in to making Sag Harbor "THE" place this summer. First Le Bilboquet and now the Trump organization has staked their claim as they unveiled their logo atop the American Hotel in Sag Harbor earlier this morning. According to the press release that was being handed out by campaign workers and hotel volunteers, "The Trump Organization is here to add some class to this sleepy little town. Hopefully we can get pretty people to come to Sag Harbor... it needs it, right now everyone looks like Ted Cruz and Carly Fiorina." The official kick off won't be for a few months until all of the gilding is finished on the exterior and cherub water fountain placed in the foyer. "It's gonna (sic) look classy" said one Trump spokesman. There are also plans that the current restaurant will be replaced with "Donald's Big Weiner Hut" specializing in over sized Kobe beef hot dogs. For more information, you can visit the new hotel website<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_Fools%27_Day" target="_blank"> here.</a> I'm hoping they can just make Sag Harbor great again!<br />

OK, hopefully you clicked the link above and KNOW all the details from above. In the meantime, some changes are in store for the former Nichols and the ever so briefly named Winston's. The East Hampton locale is now being prepped for the upcoming season by SagTown Coffee's Shane Dyckman and local restaurateur Michael Gluckman. The "SERVICE STATION" will feature a diverse menu featuring fresh seafood and more contemporary fare such as rock shrimp tacos, steak frites, rotisserie chicken and tuna ceviche. The goal is to be a casual family friendly establishment for both locals and summer visitors. The wine selection will also have a wide selection by the glass and starting at $8. Look for details on the opening date sometime in the next few weeks. I'll keep you posted.<br />

Meanwhile, someone who will really help make Sag Harbor great is coming to town. <i> Rumor </i>has it Drew Barrymore just plopped down a little under $4 million dollars for a home in the village. No <br />
way to tell when she's actually coming to town but I'm looking forward to seeing my favorite Charlie's Angel out and about. <br />

AND SMALL DOGS! HAPPY EASTER! SUGGESTIONS FOR BRUNCH!<div>
Break out the pastels and the whites... it's now officially ok to wear your fancy duds! Well as of Sunday anyway. So after the bunny has dropped the basket, where are some great places to wear your best bonnet? Well look no further, Hamptons Chatter is here to help. Here are my top 3 suggestions:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<i>Page at 63 Main in Sag Harbor</i> (page63main.com, 631-725-1810) will have an a la carte brunch menu from 11 to 4 featuring such holiday favorites as leg of lamb and Eggs Benedict. They'll also have plenty of champagne and mimosas to help with that headache from the all the little kiddies sugar high!</div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMuGaHxlA4uIDzh248OZ0TKz0BpZrIe5so_8yxRj0bO1OXrJ7QKela1II4Vwerx1ZizcpzeFN_AutkYmVHMNGERxZK32mMy_skAw6CGJ_tBhglLLRHHTGr52u113lT4ZErwPTFFYeQQwbN/s1600/EASTER+BUNNY.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="229" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMuGaHxlA4uIDzh248OZ0TKz0BpZrIe5so_8yxRj0bO1OXrJ7QKela1II4Vwerx1ZizcpzeFN_AutkYmVHMNGERxZK32mMy_skAw6CGJ_tBhglLLRHHTGr52u113lT4ZErwPTFFYeQQwbN/s320/EASTER+BUNNY.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">So CUTE.. and hopefully not on any menu!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<i>Topping Rose in Bridgehampton</i> (toppingrosehouse.com, 631-537-0870) will also have an al carte brunch menu featuring everything Brioche Donuts to Painted Hill Short Rib hash from 11:30 to 3p. They'll also have activities for the kids and a giant Easter Bunny around for photographs. You'll be able to order EXTRA champagne without drama. Earplugs will not be provided. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<i>Barons Cove in Sag harbor </i>(baronscove.com, 631-725-2101) will be hosting an Easter egg hunt for the kids... so hopefully they'll be outside. Brunch will be served from 11 to 4p and feature all your holiday favorites including lamb, roast beef and rabbit stew. OK, actually there is no rabbit stew.... that would be kind of cruel. Don't cha think!? I mean... "Thank you Easter Bunny for the chocolate... now jump into the pot!?" </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
Speaking of Easter Bunnies, they need to be watching their eggs and hops these days. While I'm not sure if it's a real warning or where the heck it originates, there is a message circulating on the internet and Facebook about there being a larger number of Hawks this season on the east coast. The alleged warning has been issued by "Park Rangers" and "Veterinarians" to pet owners who have dogs or cats <br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDYh1c1KopUhHFyOCOTW2mHYX7xI5IKDS4lb07cPeBF3ZFOaVLhWdeu8SWb8uCu8EEE3VN0W9VkXDGmqpJf3BBBYSFLwoxokZYy6b7FJFYE3JPDNJPZ7vTJ18MVKpXxQ9OIa7XOo0CKBem/s1600/HAWKS.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDYh1c1KopUhHFyOCOTW2mHYX7xI5IKDS4lb07cPeBF3ZFOaVLhWdeu8SWb8uCu8EEE3VN0W9VkXDGmqpJf3BBBYSFLwoxokZYy6b7FJFYE3JPDNJPZ7vTJ18MVKpXxQ9OIa7XOo0CKBem/s320/HAWKS.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">WARNING: FOR OWNERS OF SMALL PETS</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
that weigh less then 12 pounds. Apparently our small furry friends run the risk of being swooped away. I actually had a friend who swore that happened to her pet a few years back but I question that particular incident and attribute it more to her 3 martini breakfast. <i> "I saw it... my dog flew away!" Kind of scary considering it was a German Shepard. </i>Anyway, all kidding aside I did some digging online and while the "warning" may possibly be bogus, the risk is actually quite real. But before you panic and call your local veterinarian for advice or veteran with a gun on addressing the potential problem, just remember these birds of prey are FEDERALLY PROTECTED! So what can you do? Well here is are a few tips for keeping your pets safe. <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
-Keep them leashed and supervise when outdoors.</div>
<div>
-Remove bird feeders. They attract small birds and mice which in tern attract raptors.</div>
<div>
-Put hhiny objects that move out of the yard, such as silver streamers. They will scare off the birds.</div>
<div>
-Build a pen with a wire mesh for your pet to play.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So keep your pets safe, have a great weekend and remember SUMMER IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER. Which means traffic. Yeah!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Doppio in Sag Harbor.... brown paper seems to be it's color!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Good Morning all.. or is it afternoon? Either way, HC as some people like to call this blog has been off the grid for the past few months. It's been a period of reflection and real estate and a media blackout. I've ignored TV, radio and the internet for weeks now. So before I read the papers about the Jeb versus Hillary show... I mean nobody was going to vote for "him," I did some recon in and around the Hamptons to get the latest in our neck of the woods. <br />
<br />
So word about town in Sag Harbor is that DOPPIO is definitely DONE-I-OH. As if the incident of last summer's sudden shuttering wasn't a big enough omen for you, the Italian bistro has packed it's bags and headed off for greener and perhaps less discerning pastures. But while this is a surprise for virtually nobody, the big buzz is about what's going in there! So, what will it be? Apparently, it's going to be brown paper on the windows for the next few months. <u> Unconfirmed word</u> about town is that the state of the space is in a bit on the worn side and a renovation is afoot. If I have wrong information here, let me know and I'll fix it! I still miss the old "Paradise" in Sag Harbor. Please can somebody talk to somebody and bring it back? It had good service, good food and a great atmosphere, something far too many restaurateurs in the Hamptons have a hard time understanding. <br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGVcxz0RwDqotTqB47TcmspcOZNZyMiFXLPEOKQlI_rYM0nhJcX-qsz_gACaU3Ff_ifC6nOyVrehGoOFmCBU-643y7EE_ix8mcfZT049OSg8ptiH0tJspHf3QLx7yNRMwfg7kAVLSrTV97/s1600/for-rent-sign.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGVcxz0RwDqotTqB47TcmspcOZNZyMiFXLPEOKQlI_rYM0nhJcX-qsz_gACaU3Ff_ifC6nOyVrehGoOFmCBU-643y7EE_ix8mcfZT049OSg8ptiH0tJspHf3QLx7yNRMwfg7kAVLSrTV97/s320/for-rent-sign.jpg" width="212" /></a><br />
Meantime, why is it so tough to find a summer rental this season? Well it's not as the NY Times would have you believe. The mad rush that they report <u>every year</u> ("act now if you want your summer Hamptons get away) as having taking place is more myth than reality. The truth is with all of the new regulations that include rental permits, registries and blood oaths more than a few home owners have decided NOT to rent rather than deal with all of the drama. Now, I'm sure some agents and brokers are going to say, "not at all." But I'm speaking from my experiences in the past few weeks. I've called numerous landlords about renting only to have them inform me the house is no longer available. I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad thing but I can tell you, if you're debating on renting your home this coming season... make sure to get the permit and protect yourself into the pool... it's smaller this year than it's been in a long time!<br />
<br />

In the unlikely case your cocktail conversations have been focusing on such trivial matters such as terrorism, global warming or even Donald Trump.. instead of Hamptons real estate, you might not have heard the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/tour-americas-most-expensive-house-for-sale-2015-7" target="_blank"> interesting news.</a> Entrepreneur Chris Whittle has put his East Hampton home on the market for a bargain price of $140 Million dollars. While I'm not sure if the house comes furnished at that price or if he's leaving the toaster oven, there are<i> some </i>who'd rather write a check with a few less zeros for their Hamptons home by the water. So if you love the smell of salt air in the morning, where do you go without spending a fortune? Luckily, Hamptons Chatter is here to guide you with a proverbial divining rod for some homes near water that won't break the bank. Because I'd rather spend my extra $140 million dollars on something more sensible like an I-tunes gift card, I've explored other options with slightly less intimidating price tags. <br />
<br />
<br />
Amagansett Dunes - It's like the nicest parts of the Jersey Shore and it's not in New Jersey. Causual summer living (think flip flops and t-shirts 24/7) and a quick stroll, skip or even levitation to beautiful ocean beaches is the real draw here. While the lots can be small and not everyone has a pool, this is all about the beach. Look to spend about 1.1 to 1.5 million for a comfortable home in the area. <br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Amagansett Dunes: Elliman.com <span style="background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16px; text-align: left;">H34948</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Waterside Communities (Pine Neck, Whalebone Landing, Southampton Shores, Northampton Colony) - Located about 10 minutes outside of Sag Harbor village off of Noyac Rd., these areas are all about community. Community bay beaches, community docks and community club houses are a few of the features that attract buyers to this area. The sunsets on Noyac bay are also spectacular and the icing on the cake. Yet, for some folks the neighborly feel might seem a bit intrusive or suburban. Look to spend about $1.0 million to get into the neighborhood and as much as $10,000,000 for one of the current waterfront listings.<br />
<br />
<br />
Shinnecock Hills - Spectacular views and the fact it's nestled between the villages of Southampton and Hampton Bays is only part of the big draw in this community. One of the biggest draws for the growing popularity of this area is the time saving factor during those crazy weekends when Route 27 looks like a parking lot. Considering you can get a waterfront with view for around $2.5... that's a savings of $137,500,000 if you were thinking about that "other" waterfront.<br />
<br />
<br />
A few more areas you might find worth visiting are the Redwood section of Sag Harbor, close to the village and with views and great water for the boater. There is also Lions Head and Clearwater Beach areas of East Hampton. Community beaches, views of the sound and some deep water docking are the big draw for this area located outside the village of East Hampton. It also has several of the best waterfront dining spots in all of the Hamptons including Bay Kitchen and Harbor Bistro right in the hood. Yes, I know there are other areas that are certainly worth mentioning but these few are the ones that I think are a good bang for the buck. I'm only one guy without an editor and this ain't my full time gig, so don't get your panties in a bunch folks. If you want another neighborhood mentioned in a blog, feel free to go write it! I mean that in the nicest way possible! Sort of.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, it doesn't matter if you're buying a big ticket house or a little cottage, if you want to get financing from a bank... you better have good credit. So how do you know if you have good credit? Luckily credit expert Andrea Kent took some time out of her day to give Hamptons Chatter a quick tutorial on understanding your credit.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">No longer just coming soon.. now arrived!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Sometimes my inspiration for this blog comes from the strangest of places. This particular posting is coming from a very unlikely muse, Marilyn Hegerty who is the restaurant reviewer at the Grand Forks Herald in North Dakota. <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2112984/Olive-Garden-restaurant-gets-rare-rave-review-85-year-old-columnist--goes-viral.html" target="_blank">At 85 years old she became an internet sensation with her earnest and insightful review of The Olive Garden which burst onto the Grand Forks culinary scene late last year. </a> So, if Marilyn can review The Olive Garden why can't I review the latest entry into the East Hampton scene?You got it, I'm talking about the new Stop and Shop Supermarket on Newtown Lane.* <br />
<br />
(*could also be substituted with the Stop and Shop nee Walbaum's in Southampton)<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
After a lengthy wait for Stop and Shop to open in East Hampton*, the moment has finally arrived. My visit occurred the other day on a busy Tuesday afternoon. After a long day at the office, I figured a late shopping excursion would be both fashionable and just what the doctor ordered. Apparently my doctor thinks shopping is good for me. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The parking lot was bustling with eager patrons as I arrived and while there were limited spaces. Luckily, the flow in and out of the store was so constant that it was only a few mere moments before I was able to find an ample space of my very own. I could feel the excitement as I approached the <u>SELF OPENING</u> front doors that where both swift and convenient for a distracted shopper. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I was greeted as I entered into the market by smiling and friendly employees who were smartly dressed in purple and dark blue uniforms surrounded by lush, opulent and tempting looking produce. The lighting was bright and cheery and the aisles were clean and spotless, a definite improvement over the old Walbaum's. I asked one of the managers if they had any gluten free pasta to which he cheerfully responded, "of course in our new organics section!" They have an or<br />
ganics section! I then knew I made the right choice to give this Stop and Shop a chance! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Finally with my pasta in hand I made my way to the check out aisles. It was a pleasant surprise for me to now find many aisles opened with real human cashiers, also smartly dressed in purple with blue aprons. The line was fast moving and the staff also told me about the savings I could receive if I filled out a form for a "preferred customer card." How lovely... I'm preferred and they just met me!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
All in all, it's the largest and best lit super market now operating in East Hampton. It attracts vistors from out of town as well as people who live in East Hampton. It's a welcome addition to the community and will hopefully get better as they learn the preferences of the community. So I have to heartily recommend Stop and Shop for your grocery shopping in our humble little hamlet. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Generic election sign .. so I don't make and MORE enemies!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Speaking of our little hamlet, the election is finally over! Now, I know it's never a good idea to discuss politics I think it's fair to express my general outrage over the littering.... and I do mean littering of signs everywhere. People always complain about real estate signs but these paper ones are wayyyyy worse. Besides we can put the same sign every two feet! If it were up to me, I would actually fine the candidates $10.00 for every sign they leave out after today. Its bad enough my mailbox was full... and I mean full... like <br />
more stuffed than if Frontgate, Orvis and Restoration Hardware both did a double mailing for Christmas. Oh the trees that had to die for such negative and prolific propaganda! I'm glad it's over and I now have room for my catalogs!</div>
