Round like a circle in a spiral.. the windmill of Sag Harbor!

After some recent windy weather, the windmill blades have come apart on the Sag Harbor landmark. Just as East Hampton is revealing their new 2.0 windmill on Pantigo Rd.

The Sag village is spending $8700 for the current repairs but that's not enough to cover the current needs let alone the floors that were damaged in recent flood. According to some the total repairs will over $10,000 to get the landmark into better shape. Meanwhile, the village which is a little strapped for cash is open to fundraising ideas to help save the windmill.

There is talk for a “Save the Windmill” fundraiser modeled after the restoration of the movie theatre neon sign. Like the whale and the movie sign, plenty of local residents feel the windmill is the symbol of Sag Harbor.

If anyone has ideas on how to help save the SAG HARBOR WINDMILL, don't hesitate to contact the CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. You can do your part in helping Sag Harbor continue to be the cool place that Curbed

readers think is one of "the" best spots in the Hamptons!

I thought I was done for the year but like Al Pacino in GODFATHER III, "they keep bringing me back!" I'm not sure who the "they" are but I guess it's the fact this week has been so darn busy on the East End. It's like July trying to find a parking space in any of the villages. So now back to the news... good news folks... the former JLX Bistro/Pommes Cafe

(I had to use JLX because I don't think anyone knew the Pommes Cafe) will soon be taken over by the folks behind MUSE in Water Mill. Chef Chef Matthew Guiffrida will be bringing his unique and diverse menu to one of the best locations in Sag Harbor. Let's just hope he brings his amazing fondue... YES FONDUE... from MUSE to the new location. Yeah, I know fondue is not something that will help me win any "hard body" contest!

Located on the end of Main St., the space has gone through several incarnations over the past few years. But I think it has more to do with bad management than it being a bad location. Besides, if anyone can make this work I'm convinced Guiffrida can do it. I've always loved MUSE but since I live in East Hampton, found the trek to Water Mill a little much especially in the summer. So, I'm thrilled he's taking over this space in Sag Harbor. In fact, I asked Matthew if he'll be doing any of his cooking classes in Sag Harbor and he said, yes! He also told me his menu will be similar to that of MUSE but with a few more pasta and seafood dishes added.

Speaking of the man behind the stove, Matthew Guiffrida if any one of my friends who still works in television reads this blog, take note! Who was one of the first people to give Bobby Flay a gig on TV?! You're right, it

was ME! Well let me tell you Guiffrida should be your next food segment booking. I went to his cooking class and not only was it an amazing night of food and wine... LOTS OF WINE ACTUALLY... but Matthew is charming, funny and fast. He should be doing television! Matthew good luck with the new place and make sure we get invited to that opening hopefully this March!

Now for a little bit of bad news. It seems the restaurant that was the BEACH HOUSE is no longer. What started out in my opinion one of the best new restaurants of Summer 2011 has become a victim of the off season blues. According to owner Michael Gluckman, he may be back in another

incarnation soon. I'm hoping so and I'm also hoping the new restaurant serves what I thought was some of the best TUNA TAR TARE around. Ok, hopefully I'm done... and done with blogging about food. I'm going back to the gym this afternoon and hopefully I'll blog more about working out in 2012!!! Wish me luck!

Five Faux Pas of 2011.... or the Scratchiest Head Scratchers of the Year!

Well to every ying, there needs to be a yang... for every Batman there needs to be a Joker...for every East Hampton Patch there is a Hamptons Chatter and for every U2 there needs to be a Justin Bieber. In other words, you have to learn to take the good with the bad. So in response to the good stuff that we had out east last year, there were some less than stellar moments in the Hamptons. So starting with number 5 and going to number 1, I'm counting down the biggest mistakes in the Hamptons, 2011!

#5 The Empty Red Horse Market in East Hampton - What a waste to let a prime piece of Hamptons real estate sit for over a year totally vacant. It was last fall when Tutto Italiano shuttered its doors in this prime location only to leave shop owners in the center collecting cob webs on their registers. Well the only reason this isn't number one is

because it looks as if they finally have a new tenant there. Prime Meats, formerly of the over cooked and newly scorched Hamptons Market (personally I like uncharred non-burnt markets) moving into the new location along with Gurney's Bakery, a bread shop and a cheese vendor. Although, I heard it's the former Pasquale of Tutto Italiano as far as I know that is an unconfirmed. Let's hope they can stand the challenge if that Whole Foods really goes in the old Plitt Ford as rumored.

#4 The Carvel Drive Thru Window - Now, I love my soft serve and Cookie Puss Cakes as much as the next guy but I'm willing to park my Mercedees before I make a

dash for a vanilla cone with sprinkles. Hey, it would have been ok if you called even! I mean, it's in the store and it's not melting yet, so relax. In all seriousness, luckily nobody was hurt in this race for the cone. But don't you think Carvel should have just left it that way?!

#3 Rugosa - Ok, I checked in there once in 2010 and I was the "MAYOR" on Foursquare til the day they closed. Ok, so you're telling me I'm the only one who ate there!? I know, it looked like it. The food wasn't bad but the menu there was virtually impossible. While I don't know who owned Rugosa, I have to ask did they really think there was a big demand in the summer for "squab in plum sauce?" But even if you found something you could eat on the menu, while the food was actually pretty good the service was enough to make you beg for a scrap of bread or a "Hungry Man" tv dinner. So essentially 2011 was a mistake.

#2 LIPA's Hurricane Irene Recovery Plan - Ummmmm yeah, they'll be there to fix uh... the.. um.. what do you call it.. the uh...the power lines....ummmm... sometime between... ummmmmm... uh... later today and

next Saturday at 5pm! It was like they were getting their customer service playbook from Cablevision. But what LIPA screwed up this past year has been a boom for contractors on the east end. HOW? I have never met more people installing generators than I have in the past 3 months.

#1 THE MTK Festival or Music to Know - Ok guys, first mistake was did you ever look into how much it costs to rent a house or hotel room in the Hamptons during August?! Second, where were all these sort of Woodstockers going to sleep... pitch a tent on some lawn on Gin Lane? Third, the people who actually like Vampire Weekend for example (although I do but I'm very cool for my age) are probably working at the restaurants

and stores in August and they can't take off because it's busy! DUH! My suggestion, skip the music to know and give me music I already know. I would have paid to see The GO-GO's, The Pretenders or Duran Duran... or even Neil Diamond for G-d's sake. But that's just me and most of the 40 something friends I know. I'm forever stuck in the 80's and the rest are too tired learn anything new.

Sometimes it feels a little backwards... but thank goodness for these 5 in 2011!

I was thinking back to last year and some of the happenings in the Hamptons, and I found myself dividing them into some of the best and worst moves on the east end (no, this has nothing to do with dancing). It was interesting to think about it...and as I did a recent incident kept coming to mind. While in Manhattan last week I met a former East End resident who referred to living out here like living in "Hooterville." While I laughed, I have to disagree, there are enough good things going on out here to make us feel more like "Petticoat Junction!"

#5 - HARBORFROST - Kudos to Sag Harbor resident Benito Villa for picking up the stick so many have dropped before and putting together something to brighten the dull month of February in the Hamptons! From ice sculpting to fireworks and the Polar Bear Plunge, Sag Harbor was the place to be for that chilly wet weekend. Shops and restaurants were packed and it gave us all a little fun to go outdoors during those dark days of winter. If only they turned that PB Plunge into a hard bodies PB plunge, now that would be a ton more fun to watch. Yes, I know I couldn't be included in that!

#4 LT Burger - Finally a good burger joint with great shakes and no attitude opens in the Hamptons. Restaurateur and chef Laurent Tourondel, who is behind some of the most successful steak joints in the country went

out on his own and opened this new Sag Harbor favorite. It proves once again, if you know what you're doing in the Hamptons they will come and find you! Hint to that other burger place, maybe you should have actually had restaurant experience!

#3 K-Mart's MYGOFER.COM - While I never in my life ever thought I would be such a fan of K-Mart, I have to say their GOFER.COM is a god send on those busy summer weekends. It's a simple as going to their website and ordering what you need online. Then VIOLA! It arrives at your doorstep, presto agitato! So to me, KMART does not suck! Take that Mr. Rain Man!

#2 East Hampton Patch - www.easthampton.patch.com - Editor Taylor Vecsey has put together a smart, well organized and informative website for the Hamptons! It's one of the few I regularly read and my favorite website.... well next to this clever blog of course!

#1 The East Hampton Grill - What LT Burger understood and made them successful, the EH Grill/Hillstone group brought to a whole other level. If you serve people good food, with great service in a comfortable setting, they will wait and deal with pushy crowds to eat there! Since the day they opened and even now in December, it's the hardest reservation to get in the

Hamptons. But unlike some other "hamptons hot spots," you don't have to grease the staff to get a table or friendly service. My only complaint is they don't have the company signature dish of Spinach Dip at this location. Although that may now be a good thing, I want to be able to wear a Speedo at this year's HarborFrost Polar Bear Plunge!

OK those are my top 5 for the Hamptons this 2011! Tomorrow it's the five biggest mistakes from the past year! Yeah, I know this blog should be one of them

After years on Main St., then moving to a less trafficked area Hampton Cards has finally called it quits. I don't know the woman who ran this but she was always in her store, friendly and worked hard. I always made it a point to try and support this local store owner but I guess I was one of a few. After a valiant attempt she succumbed to the economy and rising rents and joins the ranks of local store owners who were forced to shutter their doors. We will miss you!

ON A HAPPIER SEASONAL NOTE....I did a little project for Prudential Douglas Elliman's holiday party in the Hamptons this year. It's sad but I didn't get to show it to everyone, I had tech problems. But better late than never and here it is. Happy Holiday everyone, from the gang!

Last month, the GRILL ON PANTIGO, formerly Wei Fun quietly closed their door for the season. But while the sign on the door says "see you next spring" the rumor is that the reopening will be "Wei unlikely." Apparently after an uneventful summer season, the owners have quietly but the business and the building on the block for a cool $5,000,000. I asked the management will they be reopening next spring and they claim they'll be there come warm weather... we'll see. While the inside space is pretty awesome, the food there just didn't cut the mustard.... or the house specialty rubber chicken (It made airplane food look good). I know it's not the location because before it was Wei Fun it was O'Malley's which was in the location for almost 20 years. Whatever it was O'Malley's was packed every night year round, let's hope the owners can get it right with the next incarnation.
Meanwhile, what's up with the lack of festivity in the Hamptons. I decided I was going to try and spot some of the best decorated windows around town from Montauk to Southampton. So you know how many windows I found worth discussing? 3! Yep, that's it folks three windows. Somewhere the Grinch is smiling about the humbuggery in the Hamptons. So who is worth discussing this holiday season?

Well, JCrew for one... it's festive its fun and it looks like it took more than 20 minutes to put together! Yeah J Crew.
The other two are Ralph Lauren (we'll say all three stores) look awesome. But what else would you expect from the brand that ate the Hamptons. It's chic and unassuming and puts you in the holiday mood. So if your in East Hampton, check out Rugby, Polo Kids and the Polo stores.
Finally, I loved COMERFORDS windows in Bridgehampton. It's a funky metal Christmas tree in lights and a snow covered terrain that looks like it was made from old window shades. Totally cool and very innovative, the window is one of the funkiest in the Hamptons. So anyway, I'm trying to get more organized and get more blogs up. Please be patient and happy holidays everyone!!!

How to de-haunt your house... some restaurant obits.. and Bieberfever to hit the Hamptons?

I don't know what to say, I'm so annoyed at myself for neglecting my little blog. At one point I was getting about 300 to 400 hits a day but alas, I took a few weeks off due to a cold, exhaustion and creative drain. You don't think this blog just writes itself do you??! So how can I make it up to you? I'm not sure but here it goes.

Sad news... very sad news....one of East Hamptons favorite spots Turtle Crossing is no more! But more on that in a minute... also sad... La Fondita, the best Mexican food in the Hamptons will soon be closed for the season. What's worse is they won't be selling their amazing tortilla soup and tacos at Town Line BBQ this winter!! Two years ago it was great to go to town line and have your choice from either menu. I'm sad. I will say that Estia in Sag Harbor actually has some pretty good Mexican options on their menu if you're going into withdrawal. The tacos and the home made chips and guacamole could hold their own at any cantina in the city!

Now, Back to restaurants closing, according to their facebook page "Turtle Crossing" in East Hampton has shuttered their doors for good. Sad news! They've entered the zone of restaurants past along with ... here's a shocker... RUGOSA! What there wasn't a demand for "roast pheasant in plumb sauce” in the Hamptons!?" We all knew Rugosa's location there is a little jinxed or at least haunted. And speaking of...

So, this may be a day late and a dollar short but a website called www.creditsesame.com is offering some tips on how to keep your house from being haunted! What are some of their ideas? Nail a horseshoe over the front door! WHAT?!!! HAVE THESE PEOPLE EVER SEEN A ROADRUNNER CARTOON!? Horsehoes are deadly! How about a nice MEZEZUAH instead? Yep, that's one of their suggestions too. Along with painting the porch "Haint" blue, because it resembles water and ghosts are apparently afraid of water. Hmmmm... ok.

Also, make sure your stairs don't have a number that is divisible by 3! This is of course the Filipino tradition of "Oro, Platta, Mata." Of course we knew about that already. Divide by three? I'd be better at calculating 3% or 6% for that matter (realtor humor)! Anyway, if you want to read more... go the website and check it out and click in the blogs section. By the way, I hear Murph's in Sag Harbor is allegedly haunted. I don't think they need to paint the porch blue if they want to get rid of the ghouls in that place, they just need to raise the prices!!!

Finally, is it true or not? A broker friend of mine allegedy got a call from some guy who says he works for Justin

Bieber. Apparently the Biebster is looking to find a house in the Hamptons. Fashon trend alert, tupperware bowl cuts for everyone!!! Oh the humanity!

Why some people just hate the Hamptons Buzz!

Well it's been a few weeks since I sat down and blogged but I'm back after a brief hiatus. It was the end of the summer here and I just needed some time to breathe and enjoy the east end. The crazy crowds are gone and the planes,

helicopters and sea planes have gone south for the winter. Speaking of the air traffic. A group of local citizens are calling themselves the "QUIET SKIES COALITION." Their mission is to do something about the ever increasing air traffic on the east end. According the group summer traffic at East Hampton Airport is about the same as Islip! Which according to the group is all the more absurd because it's a "FAA UNCONTROLLED AIRPORT" subject to no local regulation. Considering the volume they have, they believe it's a disaster waiting to happen or at the very least get worse. There is also some concern about the property values of those who lie in the path of these planes and Sikorsky helicopters. Meanwhile, most of this summer I have avoided the new Mexican restaurant Agave in Bridgehampton. Well I've since gone their twice and I will say the talk about it is a

little unfair. While it's not Rosa Mexicana, it is a definite improvement over the food at Blue Parrot. The chips were freshly fried, the service friendly and responsive. I've tried the enchiladas and the fajitas at Agave and I'll say both were pretty good. The chicken fajitas were my personal favorite and were perfectly done with a generous portion. So while I can't say you should run to Agave, I will say if you want a casual night out with some good Mexican food head there and just enjoy it for what it is... a decent night out in the Hamptons.

What's the hardest reservation in the Hamptons??? Plus, since there is no good Mexican anywhere, make it yourself!

So what's the hardest reservation in the Hamptons? Is it Nick & Toni's? Is it the East Hampton Grill? Is it ... oh this is getting annoying, I'll just tell you. It's Beach Paws in Wainscott! So, how is the food? Well it depends if you like Mighty Dog or Eukanueba but that's the real reason to go there. The reason to bark about Beach Paws is it is the best dog grooming service in the Hamptons bar none! Lara Plimpton and her team do miracles for my kids Boo and Russell. In fact, my fidos are fond of getting the mannies, peddies and fluffing there, it's more tail wagging than between the leg shakes. I don't know how they do it but Lara makes if fun for them. But if you think you're going to drop by for a quick rinse and blow dry guess again. It's by appointment only (sometimes a week or so in advance) but like all things in life it's well worth the wait. Beach Paws is located at 348 Montauk Hwy in Wainscott. 631-537-4590. When you go, make sure to tell Lara Boo sent you!

Now, I am not a food critic. But I do like food and my favorite is Mexican. So when I heard that they were opening up Agave in Bridgehampton, I was psyched. Now, I've yet to go there and try the food but I can't get anyone to go with me. Apparently the buzz is so bad about this place, I don't know anyone who will join me in the place Well, maybe in the Fall they'll get their act together (fingers crossed). So in the meantime, I'm always in search of good south of the border stuff to go. Well, I can say with certainty, I've found what is probably the best salsa I've ever had!

It's at Sean's Place in Southampton. It's made fresh and includes fresh tomatoes, cilantro and I think strawberries. So if your in Southampton. take the time go to Sean's Place and let me know if you agree. But don't worry if you don't want to make the trip just for Salsa, owner and trained chef Sean King has more awesome stuff for those with an epicurean pallet.

Meanwhile, in spite of the latest shaking on Wall Street most of my friends in the biz tell me it's full steam ahead. I have to agree. So if you're holding off before buying hoping for a crash like back in '08, forget it. Buyers are still out there and taking advantage of the lowest interest rates in history. Remember, there is only so much Hamptons land and real estate around!

The cheapest lunch in the Hamptons!

Total cost $6.25 at 7-11! Oh thank Heaven! You know this would cost $16+ at the Golden Pear. Turkey with jack cheese and lettuce on whole wheat, whole grain chips and a club soda. So I'm not saying I'll never hit the Pear or go out but I'm just getting tired of hemorrhaging every time I'm hungry! It wasn't gourmet but it wasn't bad! By the way, I still say the Golden Pear has the best Mac&Cheese anywhere!!!

Tesla apparently made summer quicker in Montauk... and lock your doors and hide your porridge a fairy tale about summer renters!!!

So my blog has been a little spotty lately but what can I say?! We've actually been selling houses out here on the east end. You know, I must work since I don't make enough money on this blog to eat let alone afford a pair of Ferragamo's.

Well my first tale is one that I've never heard before, although a few have told me they have! It starts with my getting my brand new watch fixed and somehow it folded into the mystery and legend surrounding the Montauk Project. If you never heard of the Montauk project, according to Wickipedia it's described as THIS. So, when I went to the jewelry store the other day to get my watch repaired the sales

woman asked me to describe what was wrong. I explained how the hands would sporadically just start to spin. It was her question next that stumped me, "were you in Montauk?" I said "no, why do you ask?" She went on to describe how they get people in the store all of the time for watch repair describing a problem similar to mine. Their watch just started spinning! Woah, holy Bill and Ted's Excellent adventure. Are people going into time warps in Montauk? According to the sales person (who I won't disclose) some locals feel it's the result of the experiments that happened back during WW II. So did Tesla plant a giant magnet under Navy Beach!?!? Leonard Nimoy we need you to go "In Search Of" now!! Let me know if any of you have had similar or have heard the same story!

Finally, a little fairy tale about the Hamptons and a warning to folks off Wainscot Northwest Rd. Once upon a time there was...er.. is a little... well actually....a big share house full with wall street kids from the firm of "Holdem Backs." Yes, these young male and female heirs apparent to Goldilocks and perhaps Bernie Madoff searched high and low for the perfect summer retreat in the Hamptons. Well they found one that was just right. They settled in quickly and merrily played and perhaps partied a little too hard. So hard in fact, they lost their way through the scary Northwest woods!!!

So, what to do when you've had a little to much to drink while in the forest. I mean woods... and you need to take a nap!? You naturally go for a walk! I mean neighbors are friendly here in the East Hampton forest, right?! So later that summer evening a family of homeowners came home to their house and notice the flat screen was on! "Someone is sleeping in our living room" the poppa homeowner declared! Yes, the family was

surprised to see someone sleeping in their bed... er I mean their sofa! So were they friendly to Mr. Goldilocks? Nope, they called the police and notified the landlord who was none too pleased to hear about so many bears...er... summer renters were sleeping in his beds (damn this would have been funnier if Bear Sterns were still in business, right?). But just one final note and little mixing of tales here... neighbors are looking high and low for the prince who slept on the sofa. It appears he left a flip flop behind, perhaps I should have instead called him Cinderfella!

I rarely go to McDonalds in Southampton!

If you've ever been to Ricky's in the city or in East Hampton, you know it's full of shampoo, moisturizers and various other sundries. Well, I was in there buying my favorite hair wax (DeFi - you don't think my look just

happens do you?) the other day when I stumbled upon one of Ricky's more unusual items; the SVEDKA VODKA WALK OF SHAME KIT!! For $25 bucks the kit includes, deodorant, flip flops, folding sunglasses and dry shampoo among other items to mask incriminating behavior. I personally love this idea but it's not as much fun as seeing cocktail dresses, wrinkled suits and high heels at 7am.

Apropos of nothing, I've had tons of house guests this past week and I don't even want to begin counting the numbers. But I need to look stylish when new guests come to town. My Canadian guests, Alan and Eva are arriving from Toronto tomorrow. Damn, what will I wear!? Well low and behold, If you've been in the village of East Hampton lately you may have noticed lots of bags that say "JOE FRESH." No, Trader Joe's hasn't arrived on the east end (wishful thinking) but rather a chic affordable Canadian apparel company. Now,

I'm sure Fresh Joe won't like this but I kind of think of them as a Canadian H&M. Located at the site of last years Tumi store on Main St., the company's web site describes their designs as "stylish, fresh and affordable apparel and accessories for all seasons.... featuring more than 400 items, from chic footwear to the latest in outdoor fashions." Upon reading their information, I think they may have started their stores in conjunction with grocery stores. Either way, it's a Wednesday afternoon and the store is jumping. See, there is more to Canada then Celine Dion.

I'll start off by saying that I haven't been as dedicated as I should to my happy little blog but between the job, the indigestion and the house guests (#2 as a direct result of the other two) I haven't had as much time to sit down and hit the keys! So what's going on???

Well, I had an interesting conversation last week with a young lady who works in one of those walk in clinics we have here in the Hamptons. You know you've seen them and consider them your local town doctor. I've actually gone to one of them and to be honest and they saved me one nasty winter cold from becoming pneumonia. Anyway, what did I talk about with this young lady who I'll call "Coffee" because I want to protect her identity and because I'm typing this in the morning and enjoying a certain beverage. So I asked Coffee about what are the most common types of walk-in's she sees at the clinic... wait I can't call her Coffee anymore, let's call her "Ann"... I'm watching The Today Show. What did she say?????

The biggest problem and health issue for folks in the Hamptons is..... drum roll please... DADADADADADDADDDADADADA.... POISON IVY! Yes, folks the weekend gardeners may have their Martha Stewart gardening kits but they can't seem to identify this three leafed little gift of itch!! Ann told me she sees it all the time, amateur gardeners covered from head to toe with the cute little rash that makes life miserable. We all know what Poison Ivy looks like now don't we folks? Well I've included a photo of the plant here and leave you with this little ditty I learned as a child, "if it has leaves of three, let them be." I always follow that rule and it's kept me safe for years. It also saved me $15 dollars when I went to go see that Batman movie and saw it also starred Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy! Leaves of three I let that movie be!

So what's number 2!? Well if your thinking it has anything to do with the ocean or beach you're wrong. The number 2 most dangerous activity in the Hamptons is BICYCLING! No,

it's not peddlers getting hit by vehicles that is causing the problem, it's lack of coordination and lack of padding and helmets that is causing the problem! Yes, it's a right of summer when weekend warriors put on their spandex cycling shorts and hit the mean streets of the East End. I know it seems like a good thing to do, be in the great outdoors and exercising but there are a lot of pot holes and gravel out there folks. That seems to be the biggest problem! My advice to you for a safer summer? I have a saying for this too, "If it has wheels of two find one that don't moo (ve)." Yeah, go to a spin class and go outside on a hike later... and make sure to avoid the poison ivy! But be safe, besides I see the way most people drive out here... It's not pretty folks! Enjoy the rest of the holiday week!

It's seems like every day there's a new spin studio coming to town. Well the latest is in Southampton and it's called Hard Core Cycling. I haven't had a chance to go to the new studio but a few of my friends have said it's awesome. They feature the REAL-RYDER bikes which actually turn and move and give you a better core workout than your standard spin bike. According to their website, "
CORE Leaders will guide you through moves, and turns that will begin to strengthen and condition your body, while practicing the fundamentals of CORE training, form and balance. Here, you will train and elevate your performance to get to that next level." Classes start at about $25 and are less if you buy multiple passes. Located on Rt. 27 and North Sea Rd. Thanks to my friend Peter McCracken for his contribution (he wrote it) of today's blog!!! Shelter Island scares me but luckily I have Peter to guide me from the north to south ferries:

I had dinner at the new La Maison Blanche, formerly the Olde Country Inn, on Shelter Island. The newly renovated Inn & restaurant was fresh and up to date with a bistro style restaurant. The restaurant and lounge has a modern beach chic twist to it and a handsome crowd. The menu includes fresh local seafood and the always favorite steak frites. The bar, small but intimate, has a fireplace and a separate lounge with comfortable seating areas. There is also a large front porch with seating. The best feature is the new bakery that features fresh brewed coffee, pain au chocolate, croissants and baguettes freshly baked each morning starting at 6:00 a.m. There are 8 comfortable rooms with queen or king size beds if you wish to stay over. A soon to be addition will be the pool located in the garden…next summer! A new treat for Shelter Island and soon to be a popular hang out!

This Sunday, comedienne and actress Fran Dresher will be screeching in East Hampton for a good cause. The Father's Day Family Fun event will benefit Fran's cancer prevention organization, Cancer Schmancer, while also celebrating her new TV show and Cancer Schmancer's WE THE FUTURE youth program. Featuring live music, food, viewing of the US Open, video games, a castle bounce and many more fun activities for both parents and children, this event offers the perfect outlet for Father's Day fun. Tickets can be purchased on their website! The event will be honoring local businessman and Enclave Inn owner Michael Wudyka as "Father of the Year."

Also this weekend the Beachhouse (how do I spell this anyway) will be launching their Saturday Tea Dance. You know I've been talking a lot

about the Beachhouse because it's close to my house and it's a great space. I know the gang over there have been negotiating with DJ Lady Bunny to host the event. Yes, the same DJ Bunny who hosted my friends Bill and Sue's wedding where his Palm Beach Mother remarked "that woman is wearing too much make up." I JUST FOUND OUT SHE WON'T BE THERE THIS WEEKEND... BUT WHO KNOWS ABOUT NEXT. Featuring drink specials and I think a custom bar menu it should be a blast. So what's the space like? I went over there the other day and spoke to manager Rory Boothby and videotaped a quick tour. I'm still learning how to do this editing thing but take a look and tell me what you think!?

So it's that time of the year for real estate agents. Yes, the renters are here! Now, I don't want to sound like I'm Paul Revere here warning of impending doom. I love the summer renters!!! Some are great... but there are few stories that leave me wondering about just how some of these people survive in the world!

Recently I was made aware of a new term for certain renters that the locals use. They call them the "mirrorless." What does that mean and who are these people? Well, let me tell you. These are the people who wear fur coats in June, speedos

with bulging guts and high heels on the beach. Apparently it comes from one particular incident,that an old timer agent friend of mine told me about. A few years ago when a tennant complained to an agent that the house had no mirrors anywhere in the house the agent went to the hardware store and bought a few inexpensive stand alone full length ones. Well when they went to the house, they discovered these people weren't kidding. The wife look like she put her make up on the Cyclone at Coney Island and the Husbands Coogi sweater was about two sizes too small. Thus the term "mirrorless" was born in a Hamptons summer rental.

I'm not coining a new term but it is one I just discovered. It's called an Earhardt! Apparently cab drivers in the Hamptons have been aware of this for years. Every year new comers come to the East End and move into their beautiful new 4 bedroom, 4 bath, heated pool compounds for three months. Now I appreciate that the newcomers to our community respect the rules of the roads and don't drink and drive. But please from now on REMEMBER WHERE YOU LIVE! Saying, it's a house

with gray shingles off 27 doesn't really help the driver. Nor does, "it has a pool in the backyard or I think it's on Bay or Ocean or something like that." Yes, apparently it's an epidemic for cab drivers this time of year... tenants that get drunk and can't remember where they live! If your a real estate agent like me, print little cards with the address for your new tenants. It's the right thing to do. Otherwise, the cab drivers with be referring to them as an "Earhart." Yes, like Amelia Earhart.

Also, I know I haven't been blogging lately. I've actually been busy. But I have been trying some of the new restaurants around town and revisiting some of the old. Here in a nutshell what's hot this year: Tutto Il Giorno the Southampton venue of the Sag Harbor restaurant... packed every night and hard to get in. Make sure to say hello to Walter, you know from the old Della Femina.. ooops... I mean Della

Famina. Speaking of the old "DF"... the East Hampton Grill is indeed open and apparently the buzz has been great. I went twice so far. I can recommend the Cod, the Salmon and the ribs are all amazing. The wine list is pretty extensive and well priced. So truly the wait has been worth it. They just started taking reservations , so plan ahead. I had dinner with a crowd from Palm Beach on Saturday and if it's anything like there... you'll need a good 4 or 5 days lead time at least.

On the down side of things, I don't know what happened at Harbor Bistro. It was one of my favorites in East Hampton for a long time but something must have happened over the winter. The Caesar salad was watery, the tuna was dry and my friend sent his fish back. Also, the ribs ain't what they used to be but don't bother complaining the waiters are busy schmoozing at the bar and trying to get their attention was futile. It's sad, this is one of the best locations in the Hamptons. I'll have to give them a few weeks and see if they get back to where they were. Let's hope so!

Ok, remember that fancy men's store Belhause in Wainscott. Yeah, they were trying to be the Fred Segal or Jeffrey of the Hamptons and it just didn't work. Well back in December of 2009, the show was loaded up and shipped out in the middle of the night. Literally!

Well, the space has now been occupied. So, is it a good Mexican restuarant? A Pottery Barn? A gourmet market like Whole Foods or Trader Joes? Is it anything we really want in the Hamptons!? Wishful thinking folks, it's a Sleepy's! YES... ANOTHER SLEEPY'S!!! Now, by my count that makes 5 for the Hamptons area from Hampton Bays to East Hampton!! I know there is a need with rentals for new mattresses every n

ow and then but do we really need 5!!!? Maybe folks in the Hamptons are sluttier and more promiscuous than I thought. I have visions of mattress filled rooms with weekly bacchinals all season long! Of course we need more mattresses! By the way, I bought all of the mattresses at my house at... you guessed it, Sleepy's! If you dont' have a Sleepy's near you, visit them at www.sleepys.com

Now a quick note of caution. I want to first say, I love Twice Upon A Bagel. They have some of the best bagels in town and their sandwiches are pretty awesome. The problem I have is with their cupcakes, they're two for two with me. Both times I bought cupcakes there (and I'm not talking buying the day olds) they were stale! They were like little confectionary rocks with sprinkles!! Come on guys, good

bagels... great tuna salad... great salmon.. YOU CAN DO BETTER. So my advice is buy the bagels but skip the cupcakes. By the way, please don't say it. I know I shouldn't be buying cupcakes anyway.

Well by now we all know the tales of Ed (Jean Luc) Kleefeld... his restaurants JL East, JL Bistro, Madame Tong's and Prime 103 and their lasting legacy of cobwebs and unused commerical space. Well 2011 is a very good year for former some of the best old "JL" properties.

First, Michael Gluckman and his management team including Rory Boothby successfully launched "The Beach House" last

week. A sort of spin off to their already successful "Boat House" off Three Mile Harbor. It was the opening of the year so far when they toasted Cinco De Mayo last Thursday! The cars were lined up and down Montauk Highway and of course our local men in blue were there to issue tickets. Yes, tis the season! It was wall to wall people there to see the new and improved space that was once PRIME 103 and JL East. The new menu gets a big thumbs up for some real crowd pleasing dishes (as opposed to the impossible menu at Southfork Kitchen) and the prices that won't make your eyes pop. I'll have more about their food and plans for events at "The Beach House" later this week... today's blog is about the real estate. But one last word, KUDOS for the best opening night of the year goes to "The Beach House."

Now for the property formerly known as Madame Tong's. With one of the best backyards of any restaurant in the Hamptons, it only makes sense that the building would once again host

a hybrid Restaurant/Club. It's alleged that is exactly what will be the case with the new establishment "The New York Social Club." According to sources the menu will be more American fair that will morph into a club scene after the dinner hours. I don't know who the new owners are but I'm told they're well known NYC club/restaurant owners. Look for more details in then next few days and an opening sometime in late May.

And lastly... according to CURBED.COM, Astoria's Pomme Café is opening a at the old JLX in Sag Harbor. To many it's better known as that doomed corner where numerous restaurants have flopped, including La Maison, JLX-Bistro, and Peter Miller's. I apologize for my earlier blog... where I said La Maison is back... but that's what the "manager" guy told me.

Now, we all see those free magazines tossed in the lobbies of restaurants, banks and real estate offices all over the Hamptons. Well last week my friend picked up an old copy of Edible East End which was sitting around the house and

told me about a small Mexican Deli in Southampton, which features authentic homemade specialties. Well as anybody who reads this blog knows, I LOVE MEXICAN FOOD. I've been on a quest to find a good restaurant that serves it.... and while it's not a restaurant the De Jesus Deli on County Rd. 39 next to PC Richard's is a HOME RUN! If I were Blue Parrot I would buy my tamales from this little shop on the Highway and serve them. They're AWESOME and some of the best I've ever had. Burritos for rock bottom prices, home made salsas and more are also available. This is an unknown find in the Hamptons. In fact, I went to a Mother's Day party on Sunday and brought along some vegetable and Pork Tamales, they were the hit of the party. Ok, enough writing... I'm hungry now. It's time for lunch.

Well the hustling and bustling continues with all of the shops and restaurants on the East End as the countdown continues to the Memorial Day Weekend. One of the more industrious projects seems to be taking place at the site of the former Almond and Woodshed Inn. According to a source, permits were made with the town to turn the location into a sports bar and Mexican restaurant. It is allegedly

being done by a group from up the island and they plan to name the place "AGAVE." There was some environmental issues that needed to be worked out and that's how I was alerted. Now, if that name sounds familiar yes, there is one in the city on lower 7th Avenue and there was also one in Sag Harbor. I don't think this particular venue will have any affiliation with the aforementioned businesses but at the very least it can't be any worse than BLUE PARROT (Bon Jovi's place). So, will the Hamptons finally get good Mexican food? Stay tuned!

Now, since I've mentioned it to a few folks the constant question seems to be.. "what's a Mexican - sports bar?" It's a place with Tacos and TV sets... or maybe just burritos. Who knows!

Finally, I got my shoes back from Dutch Girl Cleaners at the King Kullen in Bridehampton. They did a really good job! They rep

laced the soles on my driving shoes and polished and fixed two others. All in all a big thumbs up. So yes Virginia, you can get a decent shoe repair in the Hamptons!

First I'm telling you the rumors about the demise of La Maison formerly known as JLX Bistro are greatly exaggerated. The brown paper is off the windows and it

looks as the if the restaurant run by the folks who bring you Trata will be back another year! For a time there everyone from Almond to Le Circ were rumored to be going into the spot but alas all were wrong. I stopped by and asked one of the head honchos there what the deal was and he told me La Maison will be open again for business the first weekend in May. Now, maybe this year I'll actually go in and try the food!

Secondly, since moving into the Hamptons full time I've had 3 major complaints:

1) There isn't anywhere to get shoes repaired east of the canal.

2) The movie theatres have the worst selection and options of anywhere on the planet (I swear March of the Penguins played for 3 years in East Hampton).

3) The only Tasti-D-Lite outlet (The Brown Bag in EH) is now a Sunglass Hut or something! There's no low fat yogurt/ice cream anywhere to be found!!!

Well, now I think I have answers or at least mild solutions to two of my issues. 1- I hear that they do shoe repair in King Kullen in Bridgehampton. I dropped off 3 pairs last week 2 Ferragamo's and beat up Prada. I'll let you know how they do. Issue #3... they sell ONLY 8 - no fat, low carb, low calorie ice cream (or frozen pvc) at the Ice Cream shop

in Sag Harbor. It's right next to Vincenzo's Pizza! Thank goodness... I don't have to travel all the way into the city for frozen chemically tasting stuff anymore. According to the Only 8 website, a half cup only has 32 calories. If that's the calorie count, I can deal with the funky taste.

It's seems a scandal and a sluggish market was more than they could handle. The Uber firm of Engel and Volkers has packed it up and sold their Hamptons Out posts (including the brand new East Hampton location) to NestSeekers. Apparently employees were told Friday afternoon about their "new opportunities." If you remember this isn't the first time for the NestSeekers out east, they had an out post in Sag Harbor which lasted for about a year. Let's see if the second time is the charm?

It looks like they're working around the clock to get the former PRIME 103...JL East... Peconic Coast spot into shape for restaurateur Michael Gluckman's latest, "THE BEACH HOUSE." I'm told they're making it similar to their old "The Lodge" with a bit more fish and seafood thrown into

the mix. If you've never been inside the place, it's one of the best locations in the Hamptons. According to some, It's allegedly been mired in litigation and unable to change hands from the man known as Jean Luc (Ed Kleefeld). Don't you love that, I'm changing my name now too... call me Dash Riprock Fromage! It sounds kind of french and dashing!? Right? Anyway, earlier this year Gluckman unloaded the old Bamboo (Shiki) and started putting forth his efforts into the new location.

You might also remember Gluckman along with manager Rory Boothby ran a very successful afternoon tea dance at the Lodge. According to the latter, look for that to continue at the Beach House this summer. With an amazing outdoor patio and expansive bar space, it should be a bigger and more consistent crowd. Look for an opening sometime in the next 3 weeks.

Two bucks will get you on the subway, but fresh garlic will get you a seat. I know where to buy it and announcing THE EAST HAMPTON GRILL!

Well, now that we all know that Della Famina is soon to be no more... I can tell you that the Hillstone Group the

people behind Houstons will soon be opening "THE EAST HAMPTON GRILL." I'll assume it's to be much like the PALM BEACH GRILL which the company owns and currently operates in that "OTHER" resort area. I only hope one thing, they have the Slow Roasted Pork Ribs, the Spinach artichoke dip and the crab cakes! It's funny but I've never heard so much buzz or excitement about the opening of a new restaurant in the Hamptons like I have about this. Sure NOBU is going to Southampton but as I said before, the lines will be longer at The East Hampton Grill!

Citarella is getting a run for it's money as Mike and Sandy DeGennaro, who own Long Wharf Wines in Sag Harbor and Southampton Wines at Water Mill Shops and Muse Restaurant & Aquatic Lounge chef Matthew Guiffrida have finally opened their long awaited AVANTI CULINARY MARKET.

Located at the site of the old Citerellas in Water Mill, I went to the shopping center the other day to buy cupcakes for a friend's birthday (at Water Mill Cupcakes) and ended up strolling through what is one of the best epicurean (thank you spell check) centers in the Hamptons. The prices are more than competitive with the other gourmet shops in the Hamptons but the staff was over the top helpful!! The selection of seafood and meats were well stocked but I was bowled over by the extensive selection of herbs and spices (why do I sound like I'm talking about KFC) with the slick and cool packaging.

To be perfectly honest, I didn't try much of the prepared foods since I'm currently trying to squeeze into my 29" waist speedo so I can't comment. But I did try the tuna which the chef offered to turn into freshly prepared "tuna tare tare." It was probably the best I ever had! So, I remember when I was a kid seeing the movie "Rain Man." The two most memorable lines were "20 minutes to

Wapner" and "K-Mart" sucks. But hell, what does Tom Cruise know anyway, remember according to Wickipedia he thinks "that a human is an immortal alien spiritual being, termed a thetan, that is trapped on planet Earth in a physical body." Hmmmmm. Anyway, I can tell you K-Mart does NOT SUCK! You would think that there would be cobwebs in the aisles of the "Big K" in the Hamptons. Well if you thought that you would be wrong! Check out the parking lot sometime, it's filled with Mercedees, BMWs, Jaguars and even the occasional Rolls! Well, if that hasn't gotten you over your phobia of blue light specials, there's another way to get your Martha Stewart sheets and towels. Kmart has launched a new service in the Hamptons called mygofer.com. From laptops to laundry detergent and even those Lands End oxfords (they're wrinkle free and last forever start at $29.95) can be delivered same day to your door!

Along with that, who said the wealthy don't want a deal?! Well if you take a look at overstock.com, some of the toniest locations in the Hamptons are apparently being

marketed as "blue light specials." Now I know that the more exposure the better when selling real estate but I wonder if advertising a $20,000,000 house on the same site that most go to buy discount Dockers shirts is hitting the right demographic? Just a thought.

Remember Tommy Hilfigger opened a flagship store in East Hampton? Well yes it's gone already. Now I don't want to mock Tommy (he is a very successful guy) but perhaps this isn't really his market. I mean it seems to me Ralph Lauren has a lock on the EH public and in fact there are rumors he's even designing new uniforms for the police and fire department. Ok, the last part is a joke but I can actually see it happening. Anyway, Tommy H is gone and going into his place in case you don't already know is RESTORATION HARDWARE. I love love love love Restoration Hardware and the biggest reason is because they don't really sell hardware! I've never seen a single hack saw in the place but the furniture, the finishings and everything else rock. It's opening right on Main St. and the sign in the window says it's opening in April. Stay tuned.

Now for the food news; Race Lane is back open after a brief hiatus and menu overhaul. The burger is still there, the Branzino is still there and so is the Half Chicken. Also now on the men is an amazing crab cake appetizer, suffed zucchini flower with ricotta, mint and tomato emulsion and a crab cake that is virtually all crab! There 's a lot more on the menu at RL (no, not Ralph Lauren- - Race Lane) and the service and atmosphere are top notch. We're glad to see them back in action.

Meanwhile, Yes I was W-R-O-N-G! Almond didn't go into the Old Stove Pub as I prophisized but I was told it really was close. In case you didn't know, they're going to the old

ONE OCEAN, which I remember better as the old JG Mellon's. I actually worked at JG Mellon's on the UWS when I first moved to NYC. I'm not sure why they never made it out here. I'm wishing Eric L. and Laura and the entrie crew of Almond luck at their new local. I'll see you guys soon!

Breaking News!!!! Della Femina sells to Hillstone Restaurant Group!

In news that is going to have all of the Hamptons a buzz... Jerry Della Femina has allegedly sold his East Hampton restaurant to the Hillstone Restaurant Group. In case you don't know the group it's the company behind the hugely successful HOUSTON'S restaurant group. The company recently changed their name to Hillstone's in the Manhattan locations. I'm not sure what the name will be here in the Hamptons, but I assure you the food will be awesome. I have long been a fan of Houston's/Hillstone in the city. Their salads, their steaks, their everything is fresh, a great portion size and at a great price. If I were The Palm, I would be very nervous right now. This will be the biggest restaurant on the east end this summer.... MARK MY WORDS! Look for an opening in early to mid May!

No more EH Village beach passes.... and a new fitness studio (sort of) in Sag Harbor!

It's official, East Hampton Village has officially ran out of 2011 Non-resident beach passes. So if you don't already have one, it's Indian Wells for you. But before you head out there make sure you at least have a town pass. There are plenty of those.

Well it's beginning to look a lot like spring time in the Hamptons. The crocus' are starting to pop up, some trees are budding and the stores and restaurants are getting prepped for the influx of summer visitors.

One of the more interesting renovations or expansions going on right now is wellNEST (yes, it's supposed to be spelled that way!) in Sag Harbor. In case you are not familiar with the shop, it was started by Richard Ash, MD, dedicated to organic and sustainable well being, from vitamins to juices and even eyewear. It's philosophy is all about better living inside and out. Well now they're opening a WellNEST fitness studio. Set for a May 1 launch and hoping to give Lululemon a run for their money, the studio will feature BHAKTI YOGA, a spiritual approach to the exercise that will also incorporate natural oils and aromatheropy (if my research is correct). Oh and speaking of telephone numbers, Sag Harbor is apparently out of 725 exchanges. So, now 725 is the new 212! Be afraid of a slew of foreign and alien 3 digit extensions heading to a neighborhood near you!

Finally, they're getting ready for business at the old Farmhouse/Laundry restaurant. Apparently the former bartender and manager of Nichols, Colin Keilor is

getting ready to launch a new restaurant at the East Hampton location . From what I hear, they're looking at a Memorial Day opening. I don't know what the name of the place will be but I wish them the best of luck getting it together. I always loved the space at the Farmhouse/Laundry/Purple Cow but having been in there a few months ago, I can tell you the place was looking a little beat and needed a ton of work.

Moving into it's spot is the East Hampton clothier Palm Produce Sportswear. Let's hope they knock that other women's clothing store with the nasty owner out of business!

It looks nice this picture... doesn't it??! Well if you don't hurry, forget it!! If you weren't already aware, full-season resident and non-resident permits are available now! Non-resident permits are limited in number and are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis. And as of today, there are only about 60 permits left (according to the woman at Village Hall I spoke with)>

Permits are available in person at Village Hall from 9-4pm! It's too late to do this by mail in my opinion. Both residents and non-residents must provide; a copy of a valid vehicle registration , drivers license, street address and owner of the property as listed on their tax bill as well as proof of residency
Non-residents must also provide a check or money order in the amount of $325 per vehicle, payable to "Village of East Hampton" . Here is the link if you need more information:

Now, finally every year I get a new bunch of folks who are coming out to rent in the Hamptons for the first time. So, here it is. Some of the stuff you need to read before you go to the Hamptons. When you rent a house, most payments are half at the signing of the lease and the rest a week or so BEFORE you move in. Don't worry about the commission, the landlord pays that. So, in turn don't forget your agent is working for the landlord.

As for the expenses, the following are all usually paid for by the tenant unless you have a really generous landlord. Phone, cable TV, electric, gas, lawn care, pool maintenance, maid service/cleaning, trash pick up (or you can go to the dump)and cleaning supplies. This is a general rule of thumb. Are there some landlords who will pay for all this? Sure, the same landlords who leave mints on your pillow are the same ones who pay for all of this. If you don't want to deal with all of this, there are some great B+B's out east... just google! I'm glad to be back!!

I'm sorry I've been MIA the past few weeks. I was traveling and things got busy. But I'm back and I'm ready to roll!!! Speaking of roll and or rolls... sushi rolls that is!

Bamboo is gone and Shiki has arrived. Sushi is great, prices are about the same but the interior is a little sleeker and clean. They don't have a liquor license just yet so BYOB, but that should be fixed soon and once it is Thursday Free Sushi Night will return!

Also if you're curious about Shiki, they're a restaurant from "up island" as we like to say. One is in Babylon and the other in Smithtown. It's gotten pretty good reviews in Zagat's and the food has been called "“fresh”, “tasty”, “expertly prepared” sushi and “outrageous rolls” as well as “unusual hot dishes” in “large portions”, its “reliability” and “great deals” continue to lure “locals.”

I thought my two dinners there were pretty terrific. So rest easy East Hampton, you don't have to go too far for good sushi. I'll see you again at Shiki! Here's the web site for the restaurant:

I've been meaning to write this blog for about two weeks. I was reading the NY Post last week (no I don't pay for it)!and once again harping on Alec Baldwin for claiming residency in the Hamptons. I don't know why the press has this tendency to be so harsh on him but I can tell you for sure, Alec Baldwin lives in the Hamptons... and yes YEAR ROUND.
You always see him around and he's very supportive of all things Hamptons. From Guild Hall to Bay Street Theatre to the Hamptons International Film Festival. He dines at the restaurants on Wednesday nights in February when it's usually two other people in the place. He's often quiet but never rude and always a gentleman.
I also have a soft spot for him, not just because I love "30 Rock" but also because he did something really kind for a friend of mine's mother. My college roommate had the misfortune of being onboard the crash of Swiss Air 111. Shortly after the accident his mom was in NY organizing some things when she ran into Mr. Baldwin. He spent almost a half hour chatting her up, making her day and completely unaware of the circumstances. Cheers! You're a cool guy Alec. There are other celebrities who deserve to be picked on... he's not one of them.
So this had me thinking. I've met a lot of celebrities in my TV days and ton here out in the Hamptons. There were some I liked and some I thought were complete jerks (#1 Mira Sorvino). But the question we're addressing.. who are the cool and nice celebs in the Hamptons?! Here's my top 10!
#1 Alec Baldwin... See above!
#2 Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick... SJP because she thought she remembered me and Peter... we never met before. And Matthew Broderick because I saw him smiling to a group on the street one day who kept calling him "Ferris Bullauh!"
#3 Julie Andrews... never met her but she's Mary Poppins! She has to be nice!
#4 Lorraine Bracco... cool lady, makes great wine and pitches in to help the domestic violence center THE RETREAT!
#5 Matt Lauer... see previous blog about him taking the Polar Plunge!
#6 Jon Bon Jovi.... he goes to spin class and doesn't grunt and act pompous like a certain annoying, grunting, skinny academy award winner!
#7 Ina Garten.... the coconut cupcakes! Is she nice?! I have no clue.. but did I mention the coconut cupcakes?!
#8 Paul McCartney.... I never met him but always hear good stories about him from all the folks in town. He used to frequent Nichols in East Hampton, although I never saw him there. But I will tell you, I wouldn't go to Nichols if I were Paul McCartney.
#9 Kelsey Grammer ... nice to all at the various charity events. Was seen partying with my mother in law Mimi at the Bay Street Gala a few years ago!
#10 George Stephanopoulos.... why is he here?! Well I saw Good Morning America this morning and I feel bad for him. Add Robin Roberts to the list too. They're both too talented for such Today show rehash. Also sympathy for having to look at Sam Champion's International Male outfits at company functions!
Not so nice!? The domestic goddess, the writer of that book where Michael J. Fox starred in the movie... The guy from Watergate and the grammy winner.

FINALLY!!! I have information that Almond formerly of Bridgehampton has a new location! They'll be going into the old OLD STOVE PUB in Wainscott. My source is highly

reliable but it's not Eric Lemonides the owner. But I trust this source enough to say, drinks are on me if that's not where it's going. Apparently after a bid for the very quiet Copa went south.. the new loacation has been found! See you there soon!!!

One of the things I miss most about living in the city is having the ability to order in from virtually anywhere. But not just having food to go but actually having it delivered. I was spoiled in my little Upper West Side world with 24 hour room service from some of the best restaurants in the world. I mean I used to order bagels and coffee in the morning from the local deli, it was like having room service!

Well low and behold I moved to the East End and.... ta dah! Virtually nobody delivers in the Hamptons. I know East Hampton pharmacy and Whites deliver. So does that pizza place in the springs... the awful one. But that doesn't help me! I mean you're starving and you don't feel like hopping into the car, what do you do?! Yes, you could eat at home but that's boring. Besides, I hate cooking and Stouffers have too much sodium! I know, I sound old!

So here's the long and short of it for East End delivery. There are two.. repeat only TWO Chinese restaurants that I think are worth the weight in MSG. Number 1 in Water Mill and Pheonix in Wainscott. While it's not exactly Shun Lee or Mr. Chow's, they're both good, hearty and resonably priced. My personal favorites are the "scallion pancakes" at Pheonix and the "spicy chicken and broccoli" at #1. Both are the best Chinese delivery in the HAMPTONS!

When it' comes to Pizza. There are no Dominoe's in the Hamptons. Which is a good thing. But darn it, why is it so hard to get a pizza brought to your door on a rainy Saturday night!? Well there are two choices you have. Fierro's in East Hampton. It's good pizza and a good price. It's not as good as Sam's but you don't need a second mortgage. But what's more important, they deliver a pretty good pizza!!! The other good delivery is Paul's in Southampton. While I've never personally gone there, my friens in Southampton all say it's a good pie.

Finally, there's also Cilantro in Sag Harbor. It's passable Mexican food. But to be honest, even if I'm totally exhausted.. I'd rather drive to La Fondita in Amagansett than have food from Cilantro.

So, where are the phone numbers for all of these fine establishments in the HAMPTONS!?? You're on your computer folks... don't be so lazy and go Google this junk yourself! I have to go answer the door for my General Tso's Chicken, won ton soup and scallion pancakes!

Harbor Frost Saturday.... it's raining but the streets are packed!

Well despite the rain and the lousy weather the streets are packed in Sag Harbor today for Harbor Frost. The afternoon started with "Fire and Ice" sculting frozen figures on each end of main street followed by the start of the Culinary Tour and ....dadadadadadadad (drum roll) Polar Bear Plunge! Yes, a few lunatics decided to jump into the water this afternoon and enjoy the frigid waters of Sag Harbor Bay. It was all to benefit the Sag Harbor Hysterical Society which helps local families in need. A special thanks to Charlie Canavan for pulling this together.

If you look closely you'll see some of the towns more colorful locals and one network morning anchor. Yep, that's the Today Show's Matt Lauer. A special thanks to my second string reporter and real estate agent Richard Kudlak for helping me with this video! By the way, what a great idea this Harbor Frost thing is! Whoever had the idea is a genius!!

Rodent sees shadow and Sag is trying to make Winter fun!

Whenever I try to think about Groundhog Day, I always get the feeling the results are never right! But then again I think this holiday was best described by Bill Murray's character Phil in GROUNDHOG DAY.

“RITA:” You’re missing all the fun. These people are great! Some of them have been partying all night long. They sing songs til they get too cold and then they go sit by the fire and get warm and then they come back and sing some more.
“PHIL:” Yeah, they’re HICKS Rita.

Hmmmm, I think Bill was right but still everyone, even sophisticated types ask, "Did THE Groundhog see his shadow?" Well stop holding your breath... the groundhog in question Punxatony (do you really care if I spell this right?)didn't see his shadow. So now Phil will have some free time to go see "Black Swan" or was it look at a black swan, hmmmmmmm? Anyway according to legend we can all head to the beach next week!

Well until next week when we can put on our Bikinis you can indulge in Sag Harbor's first "Harbor Frost!" The village will be hosting Ice Sculpting ," Fireworks by Grucci, "Fire and Ice" promotions at retailers, $20.11 prix fixe menus, a POLAR BEAR PLUNGE OFF LONG WARF and what I see as the highlight... a walking historical ghost tour of Sag Harbor Village.

Yeah, we know it seems more like a Halloween event than Groundhog day time but I still watch Ghost Hunters in August! That's why I, along with the rest of the Sag Harbor Prudential Douglas Elliman office will be sponsoring a FREE tour which will start at 6:45p sharp in our office at 138 Main St. The tour will be led by Tony Garro of the Sag Harbor Historical Society and Annette Hinkle from the Sag Harbor express. In addition to our two leaders, we'll have a spiritualist who will help us get some additional dirt from those who are currently six feet under the dirt!!!

One the properties we're hoping to visit will be the former home of Robertson Realty, PDE and now currently Wellnest on Main Street. Several sane agents who I know and respect have told me creepy tales of doors slamming, items moving and a very old woman who likes to hang out dressed in 19Th Century dress on the third floor. It's really creepy stuff and to be honest, I've heard it from too many people to totally think it's just one persons imagination. So come join us Saturday 6:45p while we party with Gozer and the Key Master!!!

Finally two quick blind items about Hamptons real estate
This agent definitely likes Brown but should actually be afraid of blue and especially those folks in blue who've been put on notice. Apparently when said agent left their last gig at another company the cops in blue were called in to stand by in case. Management thought said peRson was a little off and might try something a bit wacky! Any guesses?

Now number two; this agent may look like his/her two dogs but that doesn't mean they're cute and lovable. In fact this person goes to the E. Hampton dog park and always seems to start a scuffle. Now dog lovers are running the other way every time this newly promoted agent comes by. YEAH, YOU KNOW WHO!

Who said there is no excitement in the Hamptons in the winter. Take the following case of the mischievous Beagle mix known as Russell. This morning as I was finishing my final cup of coffee before heading out the door and emergency arose. NO, it had nothing to do with Ann Currie saying something inane again on the Today show. It involved a loud bark coming from the back yard.

As I went outside, I saw my trusty and well behaved girl Boo digging away at the side of the pool house! What was she doing?? Wait there's another bark coming from... GASP.... underneath the pool house!!! Oh my god, I had visions of Jo Beth Williams somehow working her way into a TV version of what could be a truly tragic event!!! "BABY JESSICA 2; RUSSELL'S TRAPPED!" The air was filled with tension and suspense. But as often is the case in times of tragedy, the spirit of man causes him to rise to the occasion. WE ARE ALL HEROES DEEP DOWN INSIDE (cue David Bowie song)!

Luckily my trusty house manager Daniel Strohmeir was there with crow bar in hand. If you know me well, you know why I often owe mine, Boo, Peter and Russell's very survival to Daniel. This morning all of our lives came crashing together in what could have been a tragedy!! In all seriousness for a second, I got scared when the little guy stopped barking for a few minutes. I actually got a shiver thinking what if somehow Russell really got himself hurt down... choking or suffocating! Yikes, maybe I should have called the fire department. I mean they rescue cats out of trees right?!

No, never call the fire department or the police in the Hamptons unless it's an absolute emergency. Because knowing my luck Russell would pop out the minute I did and I would end up being disgraced in the community fire/police blotter as the neurotic crack pot who called over his dog chasing a rabbit under a pool house. Read the Hamptons police blotters and you learn so much about the community. My favorite of late was the gentleman crackpot on Georgica beach who called 911 after a dog owner forgot to pick up some poop! It's a true story and no it wasn't me. I was on a cruise and have proof to back my claims. Now back to the rabbit chasing Russell. Did I say he was chasing a rabbit before?! Well that's my theory anyway.
Anyway, after about 90 minutes of tension, tears and fears. Russell was liberated thanks to a quickly kicked and pulled hole in the floor. Russell didn't say much about his ordeal after the liberation. But I have noticed he's all of a sudden taken an interest in the New York City Marathon website. Is his surfing of said website an indication he's planning to run like a certain Chilean Miner next fall! ONLY TIME WILL TELL!! By the way, I think I want Doug Savant to play me in the TV version, don't you think that's good casting?! (photo of a concerned Boo, eager to help-she did actually start digging a hole and ripping shingles off the house)

Finally some quick Almond update gossip. Rumors are floating that Eric Lemonides will take almond into... ta dah... BOBBY VANS. While I really doubt that scenerio big time. My bets are going to COPA around the corner. The School Street restaurant has been kind of quiet lately. It's just my theory anyway!

Ok something nice about this weather! Yes, that is my finger!!! PLUS MUSINGS ON WHY BEAGLES ARE JUST BAD!!!!

I know I've been bad about blogging here but I promise I'll be better in 2011! Anyway, as you can see by the photo, the Hamptons CAN be fun in the winter. This is the Buckskill Skating Club, located on yes... you guessed right.. Buckskill Rd. in East Hampton. My suggestion though is if you're not under 9 years old (which I am not, although some say I look young for my age) go during the week when it's not so crowded with daredevil youngsters. I mean I don't want to break a hip or anything!! Not that I would since I'm so young. I wrote about this last year and how for about $20 you can rent skates, exercise outside and breathe some fresh air.

Now on to other topics. Real quick, rumors galore about what restaurants are moving where. Let me tell you I'm hearing from a reliable source that Bamboo is not becoming ALMOND. Apparently there will be a new sushi restaurant in the location and they're souping up the place and hoping to be open before April.

The other rumor about NICHOL'S.. they are still very much open and the food is actually as good as before and perhaps even a little better and less greasy! I know that's a turn off for some.
Finally, here is Russell. He's my recently adopted BEAGLE/JACK RUSSELL TERRIER mix. He's apparently got a new hobby. He likes running back and forth over the invisible fence and giving him self a little jolt! I can't figure it out why he continues to do this! Anyone having any suggestions I'll be happy to hear them.

Finally, what Hamptons real estate agent WAS actually a female prison guard. We all know she looks the part but did you know she REALLY WAS a guard!??? I'm just asking!

Have we really seen the bottom of the market? Plus it's like a bedroom farce with 20% gratuity.

Prudential Douglas Elliman released it's 3rd Quarter market overview for the Hamptons and the North Fork. In a nutshell a little bit of bad but better than expected with some very positive points. How so? Well, the inventory and price indicators were below the prior year and prior quarter. This is primarily due to the shift away from those high-end trophy properties. Meanwhile, the number of sales was up from the prior year! They're also selling faster than they did last year. If you want to read the complete report you can go to Prudential Douglas Elliman's website; www.elliman.com So, finally I got the scoop on what's going on at Nichols in East Hampton but it's not a simple answer. Don't worry folks the haunt which boasts such celebrity clientele as Sir Paul McCartney will feature those same deep fried breadsticks. Apparently the former owner of Ziggy's in Bridgehampton is the new proprietor of Nichol's. I have to say Ziggy's was a great little place with good food and friendly staff, let's hope they can keep it going in East Hampton. Meanwhile, the former staff of Nichols is rumored to trying to do it on their own. After the last owner sold some of the employees said they want to try it for themselves. Yep, they're going to open their own restaurant and are currently shopping for a location. Almond in Bridgehampton shut it's doors last weekend after a long and extremely successful run. I heard they're also shopping for a new location, no word yet on where they're going. The rumors I've heard floated is owner Eric Lemonides is going to Sag Harbor in the former JLX Bistro. Also heard that Michael Gluckman of Boathouse fame just sealed a deal for the old Prime 103/Peconic Coast site. Meanwhile, some restaurants currently on the market for sale include Bamboo and to many folks surprise Della Famina! Apparently Jerry is selling more than his house. So today is now something everyone is calling "CyberMonday." It's the day that retailers are promoting as the next best thing for the economy since "Black Friday." It's the day where America forgets about heading to the mall and instead logs onto their computers and shops! What a nice thing, right?! No fighting over parking or dealing with store employees who are trying to work scanners or fixing there mistakes as they wait for a manager with a "key!" Instead you just go online click a button and voila! Let's just hope you don't have a problem. Everyone keeps talking about scam websites. Also, what if it doesn't fit or its defective!? Yikes, the next thing you know you're on the phone with "Tiffany" in Mumbai and the problem just got worse!

We all love the internet but it's a dangerous place and real estate agent's aren't immune from all of this either! Take this case in point... I'm minding my own business the other evening, shopping online.... wondering where in the world they find the models for L.L Bean! What a nice man! He has to be real! His prose sounds like he's bad with English... like written menu at a certain restaurant I frequented in the city AND he wants an inspection!!! He has to be real! I didn't even have to show him the house! Ohhhh... if it's too good to be true maybe it isn't!?

So I google the attorney's name and apparently Jirou has been making offers from Florida to California! Go ahead, you do it! On TRULIA.COM there were postings with essentially the same letter I received over and over and over and over again. In fact one poor broker wrote about how her sellers already started moving out of the house!!

Apparently it's some sort of fishing scam where they acquire information on the seller and then use that to apply for credit cards, loans, etc. Bummer too, I had already spent the money on The Motorized Monocycle from Hammacher Schlemmer!!! ( http://bit.ly/h7rPy9 ) At least there is no gruff looking model like L.L. Bean. Sadness ensued.

Anyway, I'm not alone in the Hamptons. I mentioned this in an e mail to some agents and got back 4 or 5 e mails where Jirou was buying their listing too! Once again, mom was right, if it's too good to be true it usually is just that! But she also told me I could grow up one day and become an L.L. Bean model. Hmmmmm what was she trying to tell me!?

One last thing! I saw the new musical WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN. It's been eviscerated by the critics but you know what? It was actually a really enjoyable show! Patti LuPone, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Sheree Renee Scott headline a quirky, ambitious and fun show. I loved the movie version and I think the show, (although the music is lacking) is a worthy follow up. I thought BILLY ELLIOT was awful and it won the TONY! Once again, what do I know.

I never forget a face, but in your case I'll be glad to make an exception!!!

Ironic, one of my favorite Marx Brothers lines came to mind last night (see today's headline). But no I didn't say it! I was enjoying my dinner in the basement of 1770 House last night when a rather loud woman next to me was extolling the virtues of a certain "News" channel. She claimed it was the only one that gave viewers the "whole story." I nearly lost it! Now, I can't get into it for legal reasons but I did give her a piece of my mind and tried to educate her to the best of my ability. I mean, she had a sort of "sapphic" (not that there is anything wrong with that) look to her and to me she seemed like a chicken defending Colonel Sanders. I don't think it worked.

Anyway, if you get a chance, go to 1770 house. They have one of the best prix fixe dinners around. You can order from the pub menu in the basement or from the upstairs menu. Either way, I love it and it's a great deal! $35 for a three course meal or $19.95 for a two course off of the pub menu. On the pub menu is the meatloaf that the Barefoot Contessa, Ina Garten twittered was the best she ever had. I have to say, I agree! Anyway, if you want to make reservations or get more details at www.1770house.com and I hope for your sake there is no Faux News on!

And now speaking of the Marx Brothers... this coming Saturday Bay Street Theatre will be showing "MONKEY BUSINESS!" It's no "Night at the Opera" but any Marx Brothers is a good Marx Brothers. Admission is $5 or you can throw in a dinner at the American Hotel for $25 including the movie ticket. Now that's an awesome deal if you ask me. (The American Hotel 631-725-3535)

Finally, if you're having computer trouble STAPLES in Bridgehampton is doing free computer cleanups. They'll help you defrag your computer, scan for viruses and get it running smooth in no time at all. It's free so don't let them sell you anything except for one of the "EASY" buttons! I love those!!

Get off your duff and do something about all of this stuff!!!

I'm going to go through today's blog and basically type a stream of consciousness here! I can't believe it but in a land where people can spend almost $100 for lobster salad, Bentley's abound and a million dollars barely buys you shack people are still going hungry in the Hamptons. No, this has nothing to do with a detox program, these are people who don't have the money to buy food. It's women, it's men and it's old people and it's young people, it's immigrants and bonackers here who are going hungry! IN THE HAMPTONS FOLKS!!! One of the their last resorts has long been the respective food banks. But unfortunately cuts in funding and the tough economy have caused the shelves to go bare. I know we get hit with tons of charities this time of year but it takes so little to drop a can or a buck in a food pantry box. One of my agents is a volunteer at the East Hampton food bank and she said things are not good. So come on people, here's your chance to show the Hamptons aren't as nasty as the line at Scoop Du Jour on 4th of July! We can do it!

So after you drop that food in the food pantry box...if you're bored head over to the 23rd annual Color theme Christmas Party on December 4th at Blue Sky in Sag Harbor. Bring another can for the food bank there and a $20 bill to get in and make sure you wear something SILVER! Why Silver I have no idea. The party starts at 7pm and you get to hear the Lone Sharks play. They're a band in case you didn't know. It's all for a good cause so get on it!!!

Almond will soon toast in a new location... and I'm no longer in 5th grade!!!!

Well I heard it through the grapevine... and not from Marvin Gaye... that Almond will be moving to a new home. Apparently owner Eric Lemonides couldn't come to terms with the landlord of what I thought for years was a cursed property. Almond proved me wrong! It's been a hit since day 1. I don't have any idea where the Almond gang will be moving but the current establishment will be shuttering sometime in early December. Almond is an institution in the Hamptons and I have no doubt Eric's loyal following out here as well as in the city will follow him! Chelsea Clinton has been reported to be a frequent visitor among a slew of other celebrities but my favorite star siting was always Peter Jennings. He was pretty much a regular there every Friday night back in the day. I guess as one door closes another opens. I only hope Almond moves closer to East Hampton, it would be easier for me! OK, one quick question, with a million vacant restaurant properties (JL East, Star Room, Poxabogue, etc.) in the Hamptons, does the landlord really think now is a good time to play hardball?

Also, a game changer for me. I finally learned how to tie a Windsor Knot! My friend Paul Zweben who is the ultimate metrosexual has long chided me for tying my knots like I was still a 5th grader in Catholic School. Well now my Hermes ties will finally look presentable!! So how did I do it? The way any adult in the 21st century learns anything. I went to YOU TUBE! Ha. Here it is!!

In what has to be a first... the Hamptons Designer showcase house has actually sold in a relatively short period of time! That's right! 129 Stoney Hill rd. is reportedly in contract. The 7,000 square foot home with an additional 3000 of lower level living was listed on the market for $5,500,000. While we don't know what the actual selling price is, $5+ million asking price in Sag Harbor and not on the water was an aggressive take. Once again the Hamptons market is defying conventional wisdom! Maybe the house was actually better done than I thought? I was there when Jill Zarin was whining her way through a tour and I had to cut it short because of my headache!

Meanwhile some home improvements in East Hampton as the historic windmill on North Main street gets a face lift. I'm not sure what it's costing but I'm sure it isn't cheap. Wouldn't it be greener and more economically responsible to put up solar panels instead?! I mean how much power does that thing generate anyway!?

Finally, once again the Sag Harbor Rag-a-muffin parade has come and gone. So what was the verdict! Try $250 worth of candy "packed." Anyway, a good time was had by all and I'm a little poorer!

A verrrrrry scary weekend in the Hamptons!!! And no we're not talking real estate!!!

Get your ghoul on this weekend. The Hamptons have taken a turn toward the macabre. So I can't make up my mind as to what costume I'm going to wear. I'm debating between going as a nun or a waiter... although who knows. In fact, I still have nightmares about when I waited tables in college and the nun I had in 5th grade. Both are very scary costumes and their isn't enough prozac on the east end to help me after that. Anyway, so what to do what to do...

On Saturday two choices or you can grab a red bull and do both!!! From 4-7pm, Jay Plumeri and his wife Rowena along with Dan Shaw are hosting a Saturday afternoon Tea Dance at Race Lane in East Hampton. They'll have a dj there along with drink specials and one of the best looking crowds anywhere in the Hamptons!! Seriously! They get a good looking crowd at Race Lane! That's why I go there! DUH! Later on Saturday, it's the Second (maybe annual) Hollywood Halloween Party at B. Smiths in Sag Harbor. Doors open at 8 pm. $25 cover charge, cash bar. Prizes for best costumes, $500 first prize, $200 second prize $100 third prize. Dj is Karin Ward, lighting and sound by Barry Scott. The theme last year was Hollywood Halloween. It was so popular that they're doing it again and calling it Hollywood Halloween, The Sequel. Please if I see you there... No Lady Ga-Ga or anyone from the JOISEY SHORE!

The most awesome looking tree in the Hamptons!

I've been living out east now full time for about 8 years. One of the sights I see during the month of October on my way to the office is this tree. It's located on Brick Kiln Road, right off of Scuttle Hole. Now, I know it seems silly but this tree just has me in awe! It's the color. It's the shape. I mean if you were to draw a picture of the idea tree in the fall, THIS WOULD BE THE TREE! I know I'm going on and on over something rather mundane but look carefully. I'm right! Isn't this tree amazing!

Just a little note to friends of mine who sware the Sag Harbor Halloween Parade and Pumpkin trail are this Saturday... You're wrong. The "Rag A Muffin" parade starts at 11 o'clock followed by thousands of little sugar jacked beggers following the "Pumpkin Trail" at stores and businesses all over town requesting free candy. Just a little note, there is an epidemic of obesity in America, so this year I'm giving out carrot sticks. They're delicious, healthy and the kids love them!!! Happy Halloween All!

By the way, the costumes that you don't want to be wearing this year include... LADY GA GA, ANYBODY FROM "AVATAR", STEPHEN SLATER OF JET BLUE FAME OR A CHILEAN MINER! All of these are hackneyed and overdone. Think of something original... be more like my dog Boo. Superdog! Im so shocked she's never bitten me!

So after months of false starts and opening dates that have come and gone, Southfork Kitchen in Bridgehampton is finally open. The big question is now, was it worth the wait?! The answer is a definitive yes. Southfork Kitchen is billed as a sustainable "farm-to-table" restaurant with seafood and local produce, and boasting it's very own on-site gardens.

Chef Joe Isidori has has created a menu that is both innovative and delicious. Some of the featured appetizers on the menu include 8 o'clock Ranch Pork Belly with breakfast radish, sea salt and Yazu, Southfork Kitchen Clam Chowder with soy cured bacon and vegtables and a amazing Garden salad with homemade buttermilk dressing and ewe's blue cheese.

Entrees include Icelandic Artic Char with white organic miso and tonato fondue, Milowski Farm Hertiage Turkey Saltimbocca with egg, orgainic spinach and guanciale. I'm not a food writer here so I'm just copying what the menu says. So don't ask me what guacnciale is!? I actually ordered the Chicken... yes, chicken.. but I have to say it was really quite good. Ok, I'll be more adventurous next time.

The wines were local as well featuring Channing Daughters and Wolffer vineyards for example. All in all it was a great evening, with a few little kinks in the service but it IS A NEW PLACE! Owner and blogger Bruce Buschel has created a warm and friendly enviornment where his greetings of many of the diners will no doubt make Southfork Kitchen the hardest reservation in the summer of '011! Wow, I was nice... no complaints.. but I have to say SFK earned it. Good luck guys!

Me, SJP and 13 nice things about the Hamptons!!

Last night I was at the NY Sheraton for the annual Empire State Pride Agenda, fall dinner. It was actually a really great event for a great cause. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was there as was Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Governor David Patterson. The event was hosted by Andy Cohen of Bravo and Sarah Jessica Parker. Now, I've known Andy for years and he introduced me to Ms. Parker or as he calls her SJP. I have to say, she was more attractive in person than in any of her movies or on the TV show. She was also absolutely charming. So now, if you read this blog you know I wasn't crazy about "Sex and the City 2" the movie. Well, I take it back. I'm going to only say nice things about the Movie and SJP! She's my new BFF.

So that had me thinking. Now that I've turned over a new leaf of saying only nice things about S&TC2, maybe I should say nice things about some other places and people I've often slighted. So, since today is Friday the 13Th I'm going to add some positive energy to the day and say 13 nice things. Here it goes....

#1 Bay Burger in Sag Harbor ... nice thing... they have a very smooth parking lot!

OK, how did I do? I'll keep going....

#2 The smell of the East Hampton Gym and the stale smelling towels keep me alert when working out!

#3 Bagel Buoy in Sag Harbor... the bagels are very round!

#4 Joan Jedell's Hamptons hot sheet is great for starting bonfires!

#5 The traffic on 27 isn't really that bad on Sunday mornings in January!

#6 The Golden Pear's $10 gazpacho makes me spend $10 less on wine!

#7 That agent that looks like Ms. Piggy is much better looking than their boyfriend!

Gosh this is hard... I'm thinking... I'm thinking... hummmmmm....

#8 The produce in Walbaum's isn't as rancid as it looks!

#9 Riverhead is a great place if you like fast food!

#10 Murphs in Sag Harbor has a floor that's very difficult to slip on!

#11 I don't have to ever worry about sleeping too late, now that I have my Beagle Russell!

#12 ATT's lousy reception keeps me from spending too much time talking to long winded real estate agents!

and.... drum roll..... #13 the orange parking ticket on my window looks so great with all of the Fall colors!!!

Whoa! Oh before I forget. I have to post this video. If you haven't seen it yet you should. What do you think happens to a McDonalds Happy Meal after 6 months. Take a look. Bay Burger may not seem so bad now!

More Hamptons business obituaries and Water Mill's new sweet spot!

So, if you read the blog recently you know that Citarella Water Mill is gone, Saks Fifth Avenue in Southampton is gone and one of my favorites Tutto Italiano shuttered up last week with no notice leaving some residents and a dozen employees miffed and angry. Read more here: http://bit.ly/9JacMv Well now you can add Ziggy's in Bridgehampton to the list. The restaurant which catered to families and served a pretty good burger (hello maybe they could sell the recipe to Bay Burger) is becoming something called "M&E CONTEMPORARY TAPAS". I don't know who is running this or doing it but let me just say, does the Hamptons really need a SECOND tapas place?! I like Copa on School St. in Bridgehampton. In fact, I ate there last night and the flat bread pizza with chicken was over the top great! I have no idea who is opening the new place M&E but once I get the dope, I'll write asap! I don't have anything against tapas but there are a million other cuisines out there that we could use out east. My biggest beef is a decent Mexican!

Meanwhile, NY TIMES blogger Bruce Buchel has finally opened his long awaited Southfork Kitchen on the Bridge-Sag Turnpike in Bridgehampton. According to the blogger, the first night went off without a hitch or any major catastrophes. http://nyti.ms/au74FJ Meanwhile, I heard via a friend of a friend that the food was worth the wait. No comments about the service though. Really... they didn't mention the service. It could have been great! Who knows!?

Finally, something we do need in the Hamptons... CUPCAKES! Enough about Magnolia, Cupcake Cafe and Crumbs we now have THE WATERMILL CUPCAKE COMPANY. Run by two cousins from the city Ruth Balletta and her cousin Cindy have brought a welcome confection to the East End! Located at the Blockbuster/former Citarella/Muse shopping center in Water Mill the girls have baked up some great stuff. My personal favorite was the "red velvet" which are the real McCoy with dark coco and not just food coloring. The cakes were fresh and buttery and the brokers at my recent open house where I dispensed these cakes, gave them an A+! The Water Mill Cupcake Company is opened at 10 am til 5pm. The coffee was pretty awesome too. Great job ladies! 631-726-044 is the number!

Well here's a move that kind of had me blindsided. Saks Fifth Avenue will shutter their Southampton store as of this Sunday! So, what does this mean to you and me... not much but if you think you're going to go head over and get some Jimmy Choo's for a song guess again. Is anything on sale then? Well not according to my sources. The gossip around town has everyone going into the spot from J. Crew to Ralph Lauren to Saunders real estate. So far nothing confirmed but for the ladies of the Hamptons, Riverhead will soon be the place to be! HA!

Now as for the other retail news which is less of a shocker, Citarella will close their Water Mill store as of this Sunday. So far, the employees don't know if they'll be kept and moved to other locations. They're all waiting to hear! Meanwhile, an informed source tells me there will still be produce in the Ghost Town Shopping Mall .... a new concept organic grocery is set to move into the location soon after it's vacated. No, it's not a Fresh Foods or anything like that. It's an original and a new concept. I'll have more details soon!

Meanwhile, a little broker gossip; what Shelter Island agent is so reviled.... this person's nick name is Count Chocula! Apparently because of an uncanny resemblence to a sugar coated breakfast icon! Pluck the eyebrows!

It's a war of sneakers in Bridgehampton!!!

There are a million things we need in the Hamptons. A shoe repair place... A good electronics store (Best Buy)... a Target (over K-Mart) ... a decent Mexican restaurant... oh the list can go on and on. What we don't need is another sporting goods store. There's already a few in East Hampton and Southampton. But in Bridgehampton the folks form Kimco don't want you to walk far to do your comparison shopping for your next pair of NIKE's, just go next door. Yep, they've allowed the chain Olympia Sports to open next to Sneakerology! If anyone knows how this happened.. let me know.

I spoke to employees at each location and apparently they're out for blood. Both swearing they'll put the other out of business! Who knew Reebok's and Under Armor could stir such emotion! Meanwhile in other Bridgehampton news... I have to check out to see if Staples is opened yet. My guess is not likely!

Things I learned this Summer ! Plus ...Kickin' butt on the web!

So what did I learn the past summer in the Hamptons? TONS... let me share with you a few of the things.
1) Free internet exists on the Long Island Expressway! All you have to do is drive the two hours behind the Jitney and your Zip Car is now an office on wheels! Send e mails... do research and look at actor Mark Feurstein (They guy from Royal Pains- I don't know him either) for the entire two hours! Thank you Hampton Jitney and please only use this service when your a passenger!!! DID I REALLY NEED TO SAY THAT!? YEP! Speaking of which...

2) You must assume every driver during the summer is texting while driving. I've seen more Range Rovers plow through cross walks this summer than ever before. I'm surprised more people weren't killed this summer all because someone had to tell their girlfriend they were "LOL"-ing!

3) Jodi Della Famina ruined every single back of the road "short cut" in the Hamptons! Traffic now get's backed up on Scuttle Hole Road on a TUESDAY!! #$****$#!!

4) Thursday is the new Friday and Monday is the new Sunday. How come when I worked in the city, I had to work every Friday and Monday? (Insert working at Roy Rogers joke here) What do these people do for a living? I mean is everyone a trust funder??!

5) There's a new word in the Hamptons vocabulary. It's called Madoffreude! It's kind of like Schadenfreude .. you know where people derive pleasure from the misfortunes of others. Madoffreude is taking great pleasure in the fact that someone you know of got ripped off by Bernie Madoff.

Wasn't it just a great summer!?

Finally a little bragging about where I work. I'm a little biased yes, but Prudential Dougals Elliman just launched it's new $1,000,000+ web site this week and wow!! What am I talking about ?!?!? It's a cross between facebook and cracK...the equivelent of real estate narcotics.. totally addicting! The full screen images, the tracking of listings and the fact that it also has the listings from PDE and other companies as well really makes this a game changer! So if you're thinking about searching for a property on say the UPPER WEST SIDE or Soho.. why go to 4 or 5 different websites you can look on just one! Cool huh!? Hey, after a brief hiatus I'm back!!! So what's cooking!? Lots but let me first tell you about this e mail I got from something called. "SOUTHAMPTONRESIDENTSUNITED".. YEAH, it's one word. Anyway, they're a little peeved that Southampton Town board is getting ready to discuss a vote on legislation that will allow any homeowner with a lot of 1/2 acre or larger to install two wind "turbines" as tall as 120 feet with no planned restrictions for scenic areas or closeness to neighbors. While personally, I love the idea for green energy.. I more love the idea that if you don't like your neighbor you can now install a wind turbine!!!! Wow! How cool is that!!! I just imagine feathers flying everywhere on the east end as those damn Canadian Geese go head long into my TURBINE!! I mean as a real estate agent, nothing helps sell a house better than an attractive 120 foot blood and feather soaked wind turbine! I don't want to get into the debate here but if you have an issue.... call get in touch with town supervisor Anna Throne-Holst at the SH town supervisors office.

There was also a brew ha ha about the same thing in East Hampton on Long Lane earlier this year. What do you think? I'm curious to know.

Rumor has it, that a ceiling fan caught fire at Illusions jewlrey in Sag Harbor. Although there were no reported injuries or flames.... you would have thought it was the Towering Inferno! But hey, it's small town living and people are bored in August. So everybody showed up!!

In case you weren't aware, August 1st is High Noon in the Hamptons for real estate agents. WHY? Because it's the day most of the rental customers move in for their end of the summer rentals. While real estate agents make more than say the girl at the Carvel, when people are paying some serious bucks the expectations are a little different. So, I did a little informal polling around town with home owners and a few agents from Prudential, Corcoran and the other guys and asked what are some of your favorite stories from the trenches. Here are a few of my personal favorites. The names have been changed to protect the stupid and innocent!

A TOAST TO THE BROKER: Friends of mine decided to rent their own home south of the highway for August and spend the month in Europe. They were relieved when they found a wealthy couple from out of state who would actually be moving in with their maid, butler and entire staff to look after their very pristine home. Well while their home was for the most part pristine the kitchen had issues. The issue? The toaster was sub par and required more than one cycle to get the bread golden brown. The irate renters insisted said landlords immediately get a new toaster that morning while they were "still having breakfast!" The landlord's response was "Krups you!"

HALSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM: This comes from an agent who's customers "The Smiths" have a bad short term memory and won't settle for second best. Due to an influx of arriving renters and scheduling conflicts the agent "Halston" was unable to meet Mr & Mrs. Smith to let them in to their new August rental. No problem. They've been to the house before and Halston would leave them a key under the mat and meet them later to make sure everything is alright. Well the Smiths arrived and loved the house! "Halston, dont' bother we're fine... we'll speak to you later if we have a problem!" Well two days later, "Halston we have a problem!" The Smiths were awoken early in the morning by the owners of the house! The homeowners were shocked to find someone sleeping in their beds! "Who are you people" the owners exclaimed!?" The Smiths were indignant and shocked, "we're the people who rented this house!" There was only one problem, The Smith's didn't rent the house they rented the one next door!

GLEN OR GLENDA: What is an agent to do when he or she rents a home to someone who isn't what they appear?! One broker went to the home at the owners request to find out who was the extra woman staying in their house?! They had rented it to a single gentleman who seemed to have shacked up and allowed a woman to move in without the landlords consent. Well imagine the surprise that nobody new had moved in. It was just a matter of the the tenants preference to wear heels and skirts while vacationing in the Hamptons. As if they're weren't already enough single women in the Hamptons!!!?

Finally a few quickie requests and complaints that agents have received over the past few years;

1) There is no hot water in the master shower... both knobs say cold!!
2) Can you help us change the light bulb in the night stand lamp, we're not very mechanical!?
3) There are too many bugs in the back yard and there is no screened in porch, you need to do something!
4) Would the landlord mind cutting down the one tree? It's blocking the late afternoon sun from the pool!
5) How would running the pool heater drain the propane tanks??!

Oh people, there are way more stories here to discuss. Perhaps I'll have more in the days to come! But now you know why I haven't blogged and what I've been dealing with!!!

Finally, to those folks that have that top agent representing their property. If they're too busy to let another agent preview a $39 million dollar home, do you think they're wasting their time showing your cheap $10 million dollar shack?! Any guesses who this broker is?

Yeah, Yeah, I know traffic sucked you didn't have time to stop for dinner and you're pulling into Southampton and you're really really hungry. What to do?! Well, you can stop at BK or Mickey D's but you'll regret it later. Here's my quick guide to what's open til when along 27!

Roberts in Water Mill open til 10 pm. I love this place. My favorite dish is the Free-Range Organic" Chicken w/ Fresh Herbs & Gorgonzola Polenta for $32.00! A little more formal than Chef Robert Durkin's Paradise in Sag Harbor with a warm in intimate atmosphere.

Almond is more casual and on Friday night is a little congested. If you're comfortable in a Chelsea restaurant on Saturday night then you'll be find here. Almond is open til Midnight on Fridays. My favorite thing on the menu is the Roast Chicken..it's a classic! Yes, I order chicken most of the time! And as if nobody knew this... a single gal will meet plenty of single guys there but they'll be better suited for a partner in "Name that Showtune" than partner in courtship. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

If you want something a little more casual, there's Bobby Van's and World Pie in Bridgehampton. Both are open til Midnight and have great bar tenders. So what do you eat at World Pie? Try the Escargo! NOT! It's the pizza... Duh! As for Bobby Van's, I suggest the Asian Chicken Salad! Now let's keep driving down 27....

A Dilemna in Dune Alpin or Preturbed over Ponies!

Some residents of East Hampton's Dune Alpin are hopping mad!!! What's their beef? Well according to gossips*, the head of the home owners association gave the OK for a local group to use the agricultural reserve that's located between Horse Meadow and 27 permission to practice polo. While personally, I think it's great. I don't have to schlep to Bridgehampton, put on a cheap plastic bracelet that cuts my circulation and wait in line with the Loser Housewives of wherever! I can take my bottle of seltzer water and go watch on the sidelines without the crowd. If you don't know the field, normally this time of year it's knee high with grass and pretty pristine. The owners miss the grass and hate the horse poop especially since a polo field is not a "reserve." An owners association meeting was held last Sunday night to debate the problem, if I get some answers I'll let you know.

Let's face it... we live in a one horse town out here! One horse in the sense that it's a one industry town. An industry where you keep your friends close and your enemies closer! Well the publisher at Hamptons Cottage and Garden made a lot of friends last week and even more enemies. The reason, a full issue that consisted almost entirely of Corcoran ads. I've spoken with a couple brokers from all the companies and they've pretty much said the same thing, "who would advertise in HC&G now?!" Now if you look at the last issue and compare it to Jason Binn's Hamptons Magazine, the Corcoran stunt in my assesment was a last ditch effort at life support. Fourth of July through the end of the summer, most magazines are ripe with ads and articles perfect for your coffee table. If you take a look at the current issue which was post "C" issue, it was more of a leaflet than a magazine. HC&G used to be a great magazine and still is in some respects. I'm just wondering how they can stick around? By the way, I keep seeing new magazines tossed everywhere. ENOUGH! Between Dan's, Hamptons, HC&G and the papers, how much can you read on one weekend?! But of course you'll always have time for my blog! Hello? HellOOOOO!? Does anyone read this anyway???!

Yep this is a real video featuring my cousin in law Jordan Goldman. Who thought a silly little toy could provoke such hostility!? Hey, I guess everyone has their own issues!!!

Meanwhile, I was busy busy busy! But saw some great stuff at the East Hampton Fine Arts Festival. If you have some time, It's at the American Legion of East Hampton on Montauk Highway in Amagansett from 10a to 6p. I know it's not everyones cup of tea but if you can go with an open mind, it's a nice hour of activity.

Finally, I've never seen Blondie live but I heard they're awesome. Anyway, I just got front row seats for their performance at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center. They still have more tickets available at http://whbpac.org , the performance is Sunday September 5Th. If you think that Blondie doesn't have it anymore take a look at this video from their album about 3 years ago.

I keep hearing everyone talk about how "The Hamptons have changed so much over the past few years." Well, I beg to differ. I've compiled a list of things that are still the same out east. And remember as Carly Simon sang, "these are the good old days."

The best steak place in town is still The Palm.

Sushi is still free Thursday nights at Bamboo.

The bagels at Hampton Bagels on North Main are still the best.

The staff at Bagel Buoy in Sag Harbor is still nasty.

The American Hotel still has a great Saturday night bar crowd.

The lines at Walbaums in East Hampton are still way too long.

Friday night at Almond is still a bad place for DWF's to meet SWM's but hey, it's still fun!

Howie at Paradise is still the best bar tender.

Driving out on Friday night to the Hamptons can still take almost as much time as flying from NY to LA. Thank god we know Howie!

I'll still have to wait in line to get into Georgica.

There are still no $40,000 oceanfront summer rentals in Bridgehampton despite what your friend's friend is saying.

The East Hampton police still hit the beach at 9:01a on weekends to ticket dog owners.

You still need a mortgage to get a lunch at the Golden Pear.

And finally... the donuts at Scoop Du Jour are still just as good as when they were Dresen's.

So stop your belly aching folks and just enjoy the summer!!!

Finally... If you read this blog than you know about Russell my new terrorist... I mean dog. Anyway, he's here thanks to the folks at Last Chance Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons. Russell is also a big martini drinker so it only makes sense that he and I attend the first annual "Martini's for Mutts" to benefit the Last Chance Animal Rescue Fund, on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 5 p.m to 8 p.m. Yeah, I'm giving you plenty of advance notice.

Enjoy an evening of poolside cocktails to benefit this most worthy cause at the home of Edward Montak and Michelle Neufeld, at 214 Toppings Path in Sagaponack.

Last Chance Animal Rescue Fund is a charitable, not-for-profit organization, created to save the lives of animals. The organization states "We rescue animals that are located in "KILL" facilities and underwrite the costs of relocating them to "NO KILL" facilities in hopes of finding them a forever family. It's a war out there!!!

As the days slowly inch closer and closer to the July 4th Weekend, I'm more aware of the fact that parking in the villages of the east end is on par with with the city. Although in Sag Harbor for example, there is no alternate side of the street parking there is something far more heinous and sinister, THE TWO HOUR TIME LIMIT!! About a month ago I actually got a ticket in East Hampton for not displaying that stupid ticket they give you clearly on my dash board. But don't think you can use pathos on the brownies in any of the towns, these kids are hard as nails. In fact, one in East Hampton told me to call him Sir! I responded, I would call him "Sir" after he graduated 8th grade. Hey, he wrote me a $50 ticket, I was allowed to be nasty.

But I do know these kids get a ton of grief through the season. I see the owners of the expensive cars bickering, yelling and even screaming at these kids! Relax people they're just doing their jobs! So what's my point of this blog??? I'm just saying can't we all play nice in the sandbox?! Guys, don't write me a ticket because the validation card is too far up on my dashboard and I'll be nice when I rightfully deserve a ticket. In Sag Harbor, I will obey the two hour limit in village spaces and I will respectfully pay my ticket if I have two chalk marks on the tires.

Meanwhile, excitement and glamour came to Main St. Sag Harbor this week as Macy's decided to do a fashion shoot. Nothing says style and value to me more than two young ones necking on a Vespa. In fact, I'm going to buy some Macy's clothing sit on a bike and see what happens. Will I look as glamorous too!? WAaaaiiiiit! She has a chalk mark on her tires!!! Very unglamorous!

Meanwhile what to do??? This Saturday is the LIVE OUT LOUD EVENT. This is for a great cause and is at a beautiful private home on the water. Drinks, Hors Deouvres and Dancing! Tickets are $85.00 in advance and $100 at the door and open at 6:00pm. For more information, visit

Its my stream of consciousness blog today! I went last night for dinner to 1770 House and actually sat UPSTAIRS! It was for the prix fixe of course, $29.00. It was awesome. The food is always terrific and the service was an A+! Most of my table had the Mahi Mahi with a main course of Chedder Cheese Brioche (which are free)... I ordered the Olive Twist bread as my main dish. MY POINT?! Eat upstairs at 1770 House, you're worth it!

So after dinner, we headed across the street to see Alec Baldwin in the Guild Hall production of Equus. Anyway for those of you who don't know the story... according to wickipedia; Equus is a play by Peter Shaffer written in 1973, telling the story of a psychiatrist who attempts to treat a young man who has a pathological religious/sexual fascination with horses.[1]

Shaffer was inspired to write Equus when he heard of a crime involving a 17-year-old who blinded six horses in a small town near London. He set out to construct a fictional account of what might have caused the incident, without knowing any of the details of the crime. I guess I'm not really a theatre person because after an hour and a half, I had to be restrained in my seat because I wanted to blind myself and be rushed out of the show! By the way, all of my 5 friends loved the show. What do I know!?

Meanwhile, I became a father again this week. Yes, I have a new four legged child! How??? Well apparently in the South, dropping your dog off at a kill shelter after about two years seems to be no big deal. Luckily there are some people in the Hamptons who think this is as terrible as I do! My friend Cliffeton Green who is an agent at Corcoran was telling me about a dog she was fostering for LAST CHANCE ANIMAL RESCUE. We were doing a deal together and it was better than any 6% commission I ever got! NO, I'M NOT RETURNING THE MONEY FROM THE LAST DEAL.. BUT I AM MAKING A DONATION! But I digress... anyway, I ended up adopting Russell! He's about 2 years old and a beagle mix. So Russell is now a happy member of my household and teaching my "angel" Boo about such wonderful past times as; stealing food off the counter tops, digging under the back yard fence to escape and chasing gophers in the backyard at 4 am! Anyway, when he looks at you and wags his tail, it makes it all worth it. Thanks Cliffeton, Russell is the best!! If you want to help LAST CHANCE ANIMAL RESCUE too, here's their website http://www.lcarf.org/index.php They're in need of volunteers to foster more dogs. I would offer to take another dog but I'm spending all of my time keeping Russell in line!

BLT comes to the Hamptons!

They're building a better burger at the former home of Grappa and Mumbo Gumbo in Sag Harbor! Amen! Finally a FRIENDLY burger joint in town! BLT Prime and BLT Steak and BLT etc. Chef Laurent Tourondel and his new take on the "burger joint" will be a very welcome addition to Sag Harbor. Look for an opening sometime around the end of the month, according to staff working on the new restaurant!
